11.15.22 | General

PHILADELPHIA –Temple University's athletics posted its highest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in school history, setting a new record with a 95 percent to eclipse the previous mark of 93 set last year.  It also marks the eighth straight year of an overall GSR of 85 or greater.

"Ranking among the Top 10 in the nation in graduating our student-athletes is an amazing accomplishment, and something that makes all of Temple very proud," said Vice President/Director of Athletics Arthur Johnson. "I would like to commend and thank Justin Miller and Tara Evans and the talented staff at the Nancy & Donald Resnick Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes for their dedication and hard work.  I would also like to thank Vice Provost Jodi Levine-Laufgraben and her staff in the University's Provost Office for their hard work on behalf of our student-athletes.  Finally, I would also like to commend our student-athletes and our coaches for their commitment to winning in the classroom as well as on the field."

"We are very proud of our student-athletes for their hard work as well as our staff for preparing them and putting them in the position to succeed in the classroom," said Evans, who was promoted to Director of the Nancy and Donald Resnick Center for Student Athletes in the fall.  "None of this success is possible without the outstanding support from the Office of the Provost, as well as Temple's faculty, Athletics administration and coaches.  It is a team effort, and we are so excited to see that our hard work and collaborative effort paid dividends."

The NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) is designed to reflect the proportion of student-athletes on any given team who earn a college degree within a six-year window of their initial enrollment. The GSR was developed in response to colleges and universities who asked for an alternative rate that more accurately reflects the movement among college student-athletes. The GSR takes into account incoming transfers who graduate from a different institution than the one they started at and transfers who leave an institution in good standing.
