Single Digit: Adonicas Sanders
11.16.22 | Football
Earning a single-digit number is more than just wearing a low number on your jersey. To wear a single-digit is one of the highest honors you can earn in Temple's football program. Wide receiver, Adonicas Sanders, is one of the select few players, six to be exact, Adam Klein, Jordan Magee, Jalen McMurray, Isaac Moore, and Darian Varner are the other five. "It's a great honor to be a single-digit, a lot of people in the past have paved the way for single-digits," says Sanders. "Basically single digits are leaders on the field, and everyone is doing stuff on and off the field." Sanders is the first transfer to earn a single-digit position since cornerback, Rock Ya-Sin in 2018.Â
Sanders is in his last year of eligibility of college football. He chose to spend the last year of his career here at Temple after spending the previous five seasons at Georgia Tech University, two of which were under former Owls' head coach, Geoff Collins. "I wanted a new start somewhere, at a new school, the coaches did a great job recruiting me to come here and me and Coach Wiesehan came here from Georgia Tech and we have a great player-coach relationship."Â
Even though he just arrived here, Sanders has made a tremendous impact on the field. The Charleston, South Carolina, native has made 37 receptions for 437 yards and two touchdowns. One of his touchdowns was a one-handed highlight reel catch, a moment in which he marked as his favorite moment here at Temple.Â
With only two games remaining in the season, Sanders is going to make the most of his final opportunities in college football. "I'm very emotional, as the weeks go by time is winding down and I hope to make the most of these last three weeks." His goals for the rest of the season are quite simple, "[I want to] win out the remaining games and score some more touchdowns and do everything I can to help this team win." The senior doesn't plan to quit football after these two games. He plans on doing everything to get himself to the next level, the NFL.Â
The Owls are currently 3-7 this season and will continue to fight to win the final two games of the year.Â
