Owls Fall to Tulsa on Friday, 3-1

11.4.22 | Women's Volleyball

PHILADELPHIA – Taylor Davenport led the Temple Owls volleyball team with 20 kills, Peyton Boyd had 15 kills, and Jelena Prolic added 12, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Friday night, falling in four sets, 21-25, 18-25, 26-24, and 14-25.

 

In the loss, Temple falls to 9-15 overall on the season, and 3-10 in AAC play, while Tulsa moves to 11-13 overall and 4-8 in league action.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Temple hit .248 in the match but was forced into 24 hitting errors.
  • Tulsa's Kayley Cassaday led the match with 24 kills and a .442 hitting percentage.
  • Davenport hit .349, and Boyd averaged .324.
  • The match featured 26 ties and eight lead changes.


Set 1 (Tulsa 25, Temple 21)

  • After both teams traded the lead early on in the set, Tulsa grabbed a 5-4 lead and never relinquished the advantage.
  • Cassaday extended Tulsa's lead to five (18-13) as she served four unanswered points, leading to the 25-21 set victory.
  • Boyd opened up the match with a set-high six kills, but Tulsa forced Temple into six errors.

 

Set 2 (Tulsa 25, Temple 18)

  • After Tulsa jumped out to a five-point lead of 9-4, Davenport helped the Owls tie the score 9-9 with three kills.
  • Davenport had five of her kills in a 10-point span in the middle of the second set and was held without a kill throughout the rest of the way.
  • Offensively, Cassaday had a set-high nine kills on 20 attempts with no errors, hitting .450 in the set, while defensively, she had a set-high two solo blocks.

 Set 3 (Temple 26, Tulsa 24)

  • With Tulsa leading 2-1 in the set, Temple took a 4-2 advantage, forcing errors from Bailey Rowe and Cassaday on back-to-back points.
  • The Owls pushed their lead to four points (10-6) after back-to-back kills from Boyd and Prolic, but the Golden Hurricane tied the score and took eventually took an 18-15 lead as Cassaday and Eitler teamed up with three kills apiece for Tulsa.
  • Temple regrouped to fight back to tie the set, 24-24, and earn the set win (26-24) with an ace from Patrycja Zielinska and a kill from Boyd.
  • Davenport hit .417 in the set with five kills, while Cassaday had seven kills and hit .429.

 

Set 4 (Tulsa 25, Temple 14)

  • Tulsa led wire-to-wire in the final set, winning 25-14.
  • Three times throughout the final set, the Golden Hurricane scored three or more points before Temple was able to side out.
  • Eitler started the set, serving Tulsa to a 6-0 advantage before the Cherry and White put its first point on the scoreboard.
  • Tulsa held Temple to a .129 hitting percentage with six attack errors.
