PHILADELPHIA - Temple point guard Aleah Nelson joined the 1,000 point club Friday night as the women's basketball team topped Duquesne 66-60 at the Liacouras Center. Nelson is the 26th Owls in program history to score 1,000 points.

Nelson led both teams with 33 points, while Ayanna Townsend led Duquesne with 19. With the win, the Owls improve to 5-6 while the Dukes fall to 8-3 on the season.

> Both teams kept it close to open the game, with neither side holding more than a one-basket lead through the first media timout.
> Duquesne took its largest lead of the game with 4:28 left on the clock, as a second chance layup from the Dukes put the team up four (12-8).
> The Owls answered with an 8-0 run capped by a Nelson three to give Temple a 16-12 lead.
> The Dukes would go on to score six of the final eight of the quarter to tie it 18-18 at the break.

Second Quarter: Temple 35, Duquesne 28
> Nelson broke the tie with her second three of the game, but Duquesne scored back-to-back buckets to retake the lead (22-21) at the 8:30 minute mark.
> Temple went back on top (26-22) after a Jalynn Holmes layup and Nelson trey, but four turnovers in under three minutes kept the Owls from running away with the game.
> Duquesne kept it close, but the Cherry and White was hot from behind the arc and went 3-of-3 in the final 2:28 to go up 35-28 at the half.

Third Quarter: Temple 51, Duquesne 38
> Tiarra East went 1-of-2 at the line to open the quarter before Duquesne scored its first basket in nearly four minutes at 8:30 to cut Temple's lead to 36-30.
> Nelson scored her 1,000th point from long and a Jasha Clinton drained a pullup jumper to give the Owls their first double-figure lead of the game (40-30).
> The Dukes suffered another scoring drought, scoring just one point in nearly seven minutes.
> The Cherry and White went on a 13-1 run capped by a three from Holmes, giving Temple an 18-point lead (49-31) with just under three minutes left in the quarter.
> Tess Myers scored Duquesne's first basket in 11 attempts with 1:34 on the clock, and would go on to score seven of the last nine points of the quarter.

Fourth Quarter: Temple 66, Duquesne 60
> The Dukes scored three on a jumper and free throw in the first minute to cut Temple's lead to 10, 51-41.
> The Owls answered with a jumper and free throw of their own before Nelson scored a pair of free throws after a technical foul on the Duquesne bench with 7:57 left in the game.
> Duquesne went on a 9-1 run to put the score at 57-50, but another Nelson trey gave the Owls their 10-point lead back (60-50).
> Temple scored the final six points at the line, going 1-of-10 in the final five minutes of the game.
> The Dukes looked to mount a comeback in the final minutes, scoring 10 of the last 17, but couldn't overcome the deficit.

Notes
> The Owls posted a season-high eight blocks.
> Nelson is the first player to score 30 (33) since Mia Davis in the 2020-21 season. Her 33 points are the second most of any player in the AAC this season, while her seven threes tie with fellow Owl Tarriyonna Gary and Maya Maybury of Tulsa for the most of any American player this season. This is the most points any Owl has scored since Davis put up 33 on 2/5/19 vs Houston.
> Denise Solis recorded a season-high 10 rebounds.
