No. 22 Lacrosse Looks to Keep Momentum Going Against Villanova

PHILADELPHIA- Fresh off a 16-5 blowout of Army the 22nd-ranked Temple lacrosse team will host Big 5 rival Villanova on Wednesday night. The 6 p.m. game will be live streamed right here on Owls TV free of charge. Attendance is free for all fans, gates to Howarth Field will open at 5 p.m.
 
SCOUTING TEMPLE
> Temple remains parked at No.22 in the IWLCA/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll for the second straight week.
> Annie Carroll was a superstar between the pipes against Army. She racked up 12 saves on 15 shots on goal. Her .800 save percentage highest single game performance since Temple began keeping track of the stat in 2010 (>5 shots faced). She was awarded AAC Defender of the Week for her performance.
> Belle Mastropietro also starred against the Black Knights. She scored four goals, controlled four draws, and passed for an assist and scooped a ground ball. The midfielder was named the AAC Weekly Honor Roll.
> Several other Owls had strong performances. Midfielder Mackenzie Roth scored two goals and dished out three assists. Grad transfer Quinn Nicolai picked up a hat trick and an assist in her Cherry and White debut.
> Lauren Zinkl, Julie Schickling, and Riley McGowan all scored twice. Maddie Barber, Katie Shallow, and Taylor Moncman spearheaded a fantastic defensive effort with two ground balls each.
 
SCOUTING VILLANOVA
> The Wildcats got off to a rough start to the season in their home opener. They fell to William & Mary 14-13.
> Last season was a challenging one for Villanova. The Wildcats earned a 6-11 record and elected to move on from head coach Julie Young after ten seasons at the helm.
> Jill Batcheller takes the reigns on the Main Line now. Batcheller is no stranger to Philly lacrosse. She previously led the Drexel Dragons to one of their best seasons in program history last season. Batcheller has earned a 101-49 record in her ten-year career.
> Sydney Frank spearheads an impressive roster for the Wildcats. She was named Preseason BIG EAST Defender of the Year after an outstanding 2021. Libby McKenna and Alexa Tsahalis also earned BIG EAST preseason honors after both being named All-Conference last season. Villanova was picked 4th in the BIG EAST Preseason poll.

> Villanova is Temple's least played Big 5 opponent. The two sides have met 15 times, with the Owls holding a 11-4 advantage.
> This will be the ninth straight season the two have met.
> Last season, Temple demolished Villanova 17-2 in one of the largest of victory margins in recent Temple lacrosse history.
