No. 22 Lacrosse Stays Perfect Against Saint Joseph’s, 15-11

PHILADELPHIA - Temple lacrosse (3-0) took its second straight win over a Big 5 rival. The Owls defeated Saint Joseph's 15-11 on Saturday afternoon to remain undefeated in 2022. An absolutely dominant early stretch for the Owls gave the squad a 6-0 lead and the Hawks never got closer than three the rest of the way.
Recapping the Game
> Belle Mastropietro was simply marvelous out of the gate. The AAC Preseason Midfielder of the Year scored four goals in the first 3:16 of the game to give Temple a 4-0 lead.
> Graduate transfer Quinn Nicolai scored two straight goals to give the Owls a 6-0 lead a force Saint Joseph's timeout.
> The two sides scored two goals each to end the first frame. Nicolai and Abaigael Ryan found the back of the net, with Ryan scoring with only one second remaining to give Temple an 8-2 lead.
> Lauren Zinkl scored to open the second quarter. The Hawks struck back before Julie Schickling fired a dart to make it 10-3.
> Saint Joseph's scored two straight to pull with 5 and put the score at 10-5 at the half.
> Nicolai scored her 4th of the game sandwiched between a pair of Hawk goals.
> Mastropietro and Nicolai both scored their 5th goal of the game to stretch the lead to 13-8 before Saint Joseph's scored twice to shave the lead to 13-10 at the end of the third quarter.
> Nicolai bagged her sixth and seventh goal of the game early in the fourth quarter to put the score at 15-10.
> The Hawks added one more to put the final tally at 15-11.
Statistically Speaking
> Nicolai was an absolute star. The grad transfer scored a career-high seven goals and scooped three ground balls. Her seven goals are the most any Temple player has scored since Nicole Barretta netted seven on 2/14/2018 against Monmouth.
> Mastropietro had another masterful game. The midfielder scored five goals in addition to controlling seven draws and passing for an assist.
> Zinkl, Ryan, and Schickling all scored once. With Zinkl and Mackenzie Roth adding an assist.
> Maddie Barber tied for the game-high with three ground balls, while Katie Shallow and Mastropietro caused two turnovers each.
