Davis Breaks All-Time Scoring Record as Temple Routs Wichita State

PHILADELPHIA – On a day that forward Mia Davis broke the program's all-time scoring record, the Temple women's basketball team (10-9, 5-3 AAC) won in blowout fashion against the Wichita State Shockers (11-9, 2-5 AAC) on the 50th anniversary of Title IX on National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

Davis, who scored a game-high 18 points, passed Marilyn Stephens who previously held the record with 2,194 points. After a slow start, Davis broke the 38-year-old record late in the first quarter with a layup to help the Owls take the lead going into the second quarter. Stephens, the only other player in Temple women's basketball history to score more than 2,000 points, set the record back in 1984.

> Davis: game-high 18 points and three steals
> Caranda Perea: career-high 15 points
> Kyra Wood: seven points, 12 rebounds and three blocks
> Aniya Gourdine: game-high eight assists and five steals

First Quarter: Temple 18, Wichita State 17
> The Shockers got off to a hot start, as they opened the game on a 5-0 run in the first two minutes.
> Alexa Williamson played well defensively, as she had three blocks in the quarter before leaving the game with a foot injury.
> Davis broke the Temple women's basketball all-time scoring record making a layup with 2:43 left in the period.
> Perea made two three-point baskets, as she scored six points in the frame.

Second Quarter: Temple 35, Wichita State 23
> The Owls spread the scoring around in the quarter as six different Temple players scored to extend their lead.
> Wood had two blocks while Temple forced seven turnovers in the period.
> The Cherry and White ended the half on a 10-2 run to extend their lead to double digits.

Third Quarter: Temple 50, Wichita State 37
> Temple started the second half with a bang as a jumper by Tierra East and two made free-throws by Davis got the scoring started for the Owls.
> Jasha Clinton (5) and Davis (4) led the scoring for Temple in the quarter.

Fourth Quarter: Temple 70, Wichita State 49
> TU came out firing on all cylinders in the fourth quarter as they started the period on a 14-2 run.
> Wood scored the first three points of the period, as she had a team-high five points in the frame.

> The Owls continue their three-game home stretch when they take on the East Carolina Pirates on Feb. 6 at 12:00pm in McGonigle Hall
