Men's Tennis Defeats No. 56 Monmouth, 5-2

PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's tennis (3-2) defeated reigning MAAC champions and No. 56 Monmouth (5-1) on Saturday evening by a final score of 5-2. This win halts Monmouth's undefeated 5-0 season, which had included five-straight sweeps.

From the Coach
"We had a really great performance this evening," head coach Steve Mauro said. "Monmouth came into the match ranked 56th nationally and we matched up against them great in both doubles and singles. It's always great to get a win over a ranked opponent and I hope we can carry this into our match against Princeton this coming weekend."

The Owls will hit the road on Saturday, Mar. 5 to take on No. 29 Princeton in a quality matchup. The match is set for 10:30 a.m. in the Jadwin Gymnasium.

- The Owls opened the match strong, securing doubles wins from the No. 1 and No. 2 spot to edge out the Hawks by just enough to take the advantage into singles competition.
- The Cherry and White fought to keep the momentum going in singles play but the Hawks matched their energy. The teams battled it out, advancing to tie-breaks rounds from three different players before the Owls took four of the six points to win.
