2.7.22 | Men's Basketball

TAMPA, Fla.  – Javon Greene made his only basket and South Florida's only three-pointer with 20.1 seconds remaining to lift the Bulls to a 52-49 win over Temple Monday night at the Yuengling Center. Greene's three was also the only three-pointer for USF in 12 attempts in the contest.

Damian Dunn, who has made three game-winning shots this season, was called for an offensive foul with seven seconds left and Greene made one of two free throws with two seconds to play to seal the win. Temple falls to 13-8, 6-4 in the AAC while South Florida improves to 7-14, 2-7.

Recapping the Game
First Half
> Temple struggled offensively to start the game, turning the ball over six times in the first nine minutes in falling behind 14-8. Two of the Owls' turnovers were from shot clock violations against the Bulls' stifling defense.
> The Owls then held the Bulls scoreless for six minutes while tying the game on two free throws by Sage Tolbert III with 6:01 remaining in the half.
> An Arashma Parks rebound and dunk with 1:02 on the clock gave Temple its first lead, 20-18, but the Bulls would score the final four points of the period to take a 22-20 lead at the break.
> Both teams shot poorly in the period with the Bulls (35.5%) faring slightly better than the Owls (31.8%).

Second Half
> Jamir Chaplin scored six of the first eight points to push the USF lead back to six, 28-22.
> The Owls quickly answered with a Tai Strickland three and a Hysier Miller steal and dunk to cut the margin back to one, 28-27.
> Temple would finally retake the lead on consecutive three-pointers by Zach Hicks, 41-38, with 8:05 remaining.
> The Owls then went cold from the field, missing seven straight shots with the Bulls making just one of their seven attempts during the same span.
> USF took the lead back on two free throws by Corey Walker, Jr. with 3:50 to play.
> Dunn then hit a three and followed with a jumper to put the Owls back on top, 49-45, with 2:52 remaining.
> Chaplin was then fouled on a three-pointer and converted two of three to cut the margin to two, 49-47, with 2:13 to play. The Owls then came up empty on consecutive possessions before Greene's game-winner.

Statistically Speaking
> Dunn led the Owls with 11 points.
> Jeremiah Williams, the Owls' leader in assists (4.6 apg) and minutes per game (32.8 mpg), left the game with a right shoulder injury at the seven-minute mark of the first half and Temple trailing 14-10.
