Men’s Basketball Falls in Overtime Thriller at Tulane

NEW ORLEANS – For the second straight game Temple was done in by a late three-pointer on the road.  This time it was Jaylen Forbes who drained a three with just over two seconds to play to send the game into overtime and then scored nine of his game-high 25 points in the extra period to lead Tulane to a 92-83 win Saturday afternoon at Fogelman Arena. 

Temple, which falls to 13-9, 6-5 in the American Athletic Conference, played without its top two scorers, Damian Dunn (ankle) and Jeremiah Williams (shoulder), both of whom suffered injuries in Monday's loss at South Florida. 

Quincy Ademokoya, starting in place of Dunn, had a career-high 15 points and four three-pointers (11 attempts) while Hysier Miller, making his first start in place of Williams, had career highs in points (9), assists (8) and minutes (40).

Tulane, which had four double figure scorers, improves to 11-11, 8-5 AAC.

First Half
> Despite missing their top two scorers, the Owls looked smooth on offense to start the contest with Ademokoya hitting two three pointers to start the game and adding another bucket to give the Cherry and White an 11-7 lead in the first five minutes.
> Temple would hold that lead for most of the first half, before Tulane used a 12-3 run over the final 5:32 to take a 38-34 lead into the locker room.
> Ademokoya set a new career high (11 points) in the first 20 minutes while the Owls dished 10 assists on 13 baskets.
> The Owls made 13 of their first 23 shots (56.5%) before missing their final seven attempts of the period.

Second Half
> Temple regained the lead in the first four minutes as Zach Hicks scored the final five points of a 7-1 run to give the Owls a 45-43 advantage.
> Tulane answered with nine straight points, taking their largest lead, 52-45, on a Jaylen Forbes basket with 13:05 to play.
> The Owls the scored nine of the next 11 points with a Miller three-pointer tying the game at 54.
> Temple would retake the lead four minutes later, 62-61, on another three from Miller with 7:18 left.
> The Owls pushed the lead to four, 66-62, on a putback by Jahlil White, only to have the Green Wave tie it again at 66 with 4:24 on the clock.put
> Kevin Cross (15 pts, 9 rebs, 8 asts) put Tulane back in front with a dunk a minute later, but the Owls answered with two free throws by Tai Strickland with 1:14 left.
> Ademokoya made one of two free throws following and Strickland added two more with 10 seconds to play to set up the game-tying three by Forbes.

Overtime
> Zach Hicks, who led Temple with 21 points, drained one of his five three-pointers in the game to give the Owls the lead 74-71 to start the extra frame.
> Hicks would drain another three two minutes later to put Temple ahead 77-76, but then Tulane caught fire.
> The Green Wave scored 10 of the next 11 points to break the contest open, 86-78.
> Forbes would then close it out with six points in the final 42 seconds to seal the win.Statistically Speaking
> It was the fifth different starting lineup of the season for the Owls, and first in the last 12 games.
> Temple made 20 assists on 28 baskets and committed just nine turnovers.
> Strickland tallied 15 points and reached double figures for the fourth time this season and first since his career-high 21 points at Vanderbilt.
> White added 10 points and eight rebounds while Nick Jourdain scored nine points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked four shots.
> Hicks tied his career high with seven rebounds.
> Temple had its string of seven straight wins at Fogelman Arena come to an end as well as having its streak of eight straight OT wins snapped.  The last time the Owls lost an overtime game was Jan. 13, 2018 against Memphis (75-72).
