Track and Field Continues Outdoor Season at Princeton for Larry Ellis Invitational

PHILADELPHIA -Â The track and field team returns to Princeton, N.J., this time for the outdoor season, after competing in the Joe Handelman Invitational at the beginning of the indoor season back in December. This time, the Owls travel to Princeton for the Larry Ellis Invitational for a two-day meet on Friday and Saturday in hopes of building off the success that they had at the Temple Invitational last weekend.
About the Larry Ellis Invitational
The Owls get in on the action at 2:00pm on Friday when Tannekee Strachan looks to continue her terrific season in the long jump while Nicole Castor competes in the javelin throw.
A few hours later, distance runners Emily Schuler, Emma Seifried, and Cat Shontz compete in the 5,000 meter run.
The 4x100 relay starts things off on Saturday as sprinters Chelby Elam, Chidumga Nkulume, Jewel Ofotan, and Christal Pommells compete against 18 other teams in the event. Directly after, Helene Gottlieb and Laura Nicholson will attempt to build off their strong performances at the Temple Invite when they compete in the 1,500m run.
After Sophia Gulotti and Ragan-Lei Phillips take on the 100m hurdles, Deyona Banks and Kwanda Knight compete in the 400m hurdles.
To cap off the day, Elam, Ofotan, Pommells, and Marissa White run in the 200m dash before Elam, Pommells, and White join Mary Olayinka Ilelaboye, Knight, and Nkulume in the 4x400m relay.
Last Time Out
To begin the day, Strachan and Amira Green took the top spots in the long jump and high jump events, respectively. Strachan leaped to a mark of 5.68m while Green set a personal-best once again, posting a jump of 1.66m. Castor and Gulotti had a good showing as well, posting jumps of 1.56m to tie for third place.
In the 100m dash, the Owls impressed by taking five of the top six spots as Elam took home the win with a time of 11.95 seconds, followed closely behind by second-place, Pommells.
Pommells and Elam finished one-two once again in the 200m dash, this time reversing the order as Pommells took the top spot with a time of 24.68.
In the 400m dash, White won in dominating fashion, winning the event with a time of 54.44 seconds to defeat second-place by over three full seconds.
In the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, the Cherry & White continued its impressive day, taking the gold in both events.
Closing out the day with the distance runs, on the men's side, Jeppe Risvig took the top spot in 1,500m run with a time of 3:57.28 while Cole Frank also broke the four-minute mark, posting a time of 3:59.54.
In the same event for the women, Gottlieb and Michelle Joyce took the second and third spots.
To finish the day, Temple's Erik Kain and Sean Egan place one-two in the 5k run as both athletes broke the 15-minute mark. Lastly, on the women's side in the 5k run, the Owls placed all five runners in the top-five as Nicholson took home the win with a time of 17:10.31
