PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's basketball head coach Diane Richardson completed her coaching staff today with the announcement of associate head coach Zach Kancher.
Kancher comes to Temple after spending the past five seasons at Towson with Richardson, serving as the associate head coach since 2019. Kancher was promoted to the role in 2019 after serving as the recruiting coordinator and assistant coach for the two years prior. Most recently, Kancher helped guide the Tigers to a 24-8 record and a 14-4 mark in the Colonial Athletic Conference (CAA) throughout the 2021-22 season.
"I am pleased to have Zach Kancher join our staff. He has an excellent basketball mind and is a tremendous recruiter," said Richardson. "We have worked together the past five years and he is also a trusted friend. I'm sure that he will contribute to the program's success."
"As a born-and-raised Philly kid, it is with great pride that I get to represent Temple University, the Big Five, and this great city," Kancher said. "There is not another coach in the country I would rather work with than Coach Rich, and we expect to duplicate the blueprint of success we established together at Towson, especially when it comes to winning championships, securing postseason appearances and creating a unique culture that benefits the totality of the student-athlete experience."
Before Towson, Kancher served as the associate head coach at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2016-17 where he helped guide UMKC to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) semifinals for the first time in program history. The year before, Kancher spent the 2015-16 season at George Washington University as an assistant coach with Richardson.
Kancher began his coaching career as the head coach at the College of Mount St. Vincent before making coaching stops at Goldey-Beacom College, University of Maryland, and the University of Miami (FL).
