Temple Crew Grabs 2 Gold Medals at the Healy Cup

PRINCETON, NJ – The Temple men's crew team competed at the Healy Cup on Lake Carnegie. The Owls raced in the Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8, Varsity 4, Second Varsity 4, and Third Varsity 8. The Healy Cup featured men's teams from Holy Cross, Marist, and Columbia.
From the Coach
"We were able to pull out two quite impressive wins on the day", said head coach Brian Perkins. "Our boats needed to "row up" because of some personnel shortages. Our freshmen lost a tight race to our opponent's 3rd Varsity."
"Our 3rd Varsity had a great showing against their SECOND Varsity! Our fours came in first and second, dominating that event. Our 1st Eight had a rough day, but continues to show promise and real speed. We have a little to work on and iron out. But we have time and the will to get it done."
Race Results
>The Owls Varsity 4 grabbed first place with a time of 6:45.01. The 2nd Varsity 4 took second place with a time of 6:59.53. The Owls' two boats finished ahead of Holy Cross (7:07.16) in the event.
>The 3rd Varsity 8 took second place with a time of 6:09.57. The Owls were 0.84 seconds shy off Holy Cross (6:08.73). The Cherry and White finished ahead of Marist (6:16.02) and Columbia (6:25.99).
>The 2nd Varsity 8 took the gold medal with a time of 6:00.80. The Owls finished ahead of Columbia (6:05.82), Holy Cross (6:11.58), and Marist (6:19.83) in the event.
>The Varsity 8 took third place in a tight race with a time of 5:51.36. The Owls finished behind Columbia (5:47.33) and 0.78 seconds off Marist (5:50.58). The Cherry and White finished 3.26 seconds ahead of Holy Cross (5:54.62).
