Lacrosse Closes Out Regular Season with 17-7 Win Over Old Dominion

PHILADELPHIA – Temple lacrosse (11-5, 4-1 AAC) throttled Old Dominion (5-12, 0-5 AAC) in the regular-season finale, 17-7. The Owls honored their senior class after the game, Annie Carroll, Suzanna Cantwell, Valerie Cradler, Shana Hecht, Kessina Heyn, Margot Hotham, Gabrielle Kirsch, Quinn Nicolai, Abaigeal Ryan, and Lauren Zinkl were honored for the Cherry and White. It was a historic day for Temple, as Quinn Nicolai became the first Temple player to score at least 50 goals in a season since 2004, and Belle Mastropietro set a new single-season draw control record.
Recapping the Game
> Quinn Nicolai opened the scoring for Temple. Old Dominion was quick to counter to tie the game at one early.
> Temple scored the next two goals, with Camryn Zavacky and Abaigeal Ryan finding the back of the net for the Owls. The Lady Monarchs scored to cut into the lead before the quarter ended (3-2).
> ODU scored two of the first three of the second quarter. Belle Mastropietro scored for Temple.
> Each team went on a two-goal run to end the first half. Maeve Tobin and Riley McGowan scored for the Cherry and White. The teams entered the half-tied at six.
> The Owls dominated the third quarter, scoring five straight goals to kick off the frame. Zavacky and Ryan scored for Temple before Nicolai scored three straight for the natural hat trick. ODU scored the last goal of the third quarter (7-11).
> The Owls blanked the Lady Monarchs in the fourth quarter, outscoring them 6-0.
> Abaigeal Ryan scored the first two goals of the final frame for Temple.
> Mackenzie Roth, Erin King, and Tobin capped the game off for Temple, with Roth scoring twice.
> Temple outscored Old Dominion 11-1 in the second half, they took the match by a final tally of 17-7.
Statistically Speaking
> Nicolai and Ryan scored four goals each for Temple. Nicolai also scooped four ground balls and caused two turnovers. Her final goal of the contest was the 50th of her season. She is the first Temple player to score at least 50 goals in a season since Tiffany Pulaski in 2004.
> Roth had one of the best all-around days of her career. The attacker scored two goals, passed for an assist, and set a new career-high with four ground balls.
> Zavacky and Tobin netted two goals each. McGowan and King each scored once, for King, it was the first goal of her career.
> Mastropietro scored one and passed for three assists. She also racked up 11 draw controls to move to 96 controls on the season, shattering the previous single-season record for draw controls (87).
> Katie Shallow was a menace on defense. The sophomore picked up five ground balls and three caused turnovers, as well as five draw controls.
