Belle Mastropietro Named Second-Team All-Region

5.12.22 | Women's Lacrosse

PHILADELPHIA - Junior midfielder Belle Mastropietro has been named to the Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team, as announced by the IWLCA Thursday afternoon. This is the second-straight year and the fifth time in six seasons that an Owl has earned All-Region honors.

The junior became the first Owl ever to win a major American Athletic Conference award after earning Midfielder of the Year, was a consensus first-team All-Conference selection, and was named to the AAC All-Tournament team. This is the second consecutive season that a Temple midfielder has been named second-team All-Region, with Bridget Whitaker being tabbed last season. Mastropietro is Temple's 14th All-Region selection since Head Coach Bonnie Rosen took the reins in 2007.

Mastropietro was outstanding in all phases of the game. The midfielder led the Owls in points (68) and finished second on the team in goals (44), assists (24), shots (115), and game-winning goals (2). She also ranked third on the squad in ground balls (31) and caused turnovers (14). Mastropietro finished in the top six in the American in six different statistical categories, including goals and assists.

Where the junior truly stood out though was the draw control circle. Mastropietro set a new single-season record for draw controls (105), surpassing the mark of 87 Whitaker set last season. The Springfield, Pa. native leads the American in draw controls per game (6.00) by a wide margin. Mastropietro won AAC Weekly awards in nine out of 12 weeks.
