Great Start for Men's Crew at 2022 Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's crew team opened the first day of 2022 Dad Vail Regatta with an overall stellar team-performance. The team advanced four of its five boats to Saturday's Grand Finals, and are still in contention to have all five of its vessels in action at the end of the day on Saturday.

A Grand Ole Time
> Temple raced five boats in the opening day, with five boats qualifying to the top finals.
> If the Owls Varsity Eight team can finish in the top three of the semifinals on Saturday morning, the program will have all five boats in gold medal contention on day two.

Varsity Eight
 > Temple's top boat, The Gavin White, controlled heat three throughout, finishing with a time of 5:33.419, advancing to Saturday's semifinals at 8:24 a.m.
 > The Owls fell just short of the overall race best time of 5:33.058.
 > Overall, nine boats advanced to Saturday's semifinals, and the top three from that race will move on to the Grand Final at 4:50 p.m. for the Richard O'Brien Trophy.

Second Varsity Eight
 > The Marguerite was the second Temple boat advancing to the 2V8 Grand Final as it finished with a time of 5:43.249.
 > The team finished ahead of St. Joseph's by a 3.200 margin.
 > The Owls 2V8 team will look to capture the Bayer Trophy as they line up at 2:20 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

Novice Eight
 > The Rena had an event-best time of 5:52.556 in the day's first heat, almost 12 seconds better than any other novice boat.
 > The team defeated Delaware, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, and Penn State, who finished 2-5, respectively, in heat one.
> The NV8s will go up against West Point, Grand Valley, Rollins, Minnesota, and Delaware for the Toby Wallace Trophy in the Grand Finals on Saturday at 1:10 p.m.

Third Varsity Eight
 > The Sassaman will also move to Saturday's Grand Final of the 3V8s, finishing with the second-best time, 5:51.205, in the lone heat.
> All five boats in the heat advanced and will be placed in lanes by order of finish. Temple's team will get lane four, as they finished second.
> The eight-person team finished .802 seconds behind the first-place team, Drexel.
> Along with Drexel, the 3V8s will take on Saint Joseph's, Jacksonville, and MIT.

Second Varsity Four
>Â The Mirabella was the last of the four boats to solidify their spot in the Grand Finals on Saturday.
> The 2V4 competed twice on Friday, with the first race taking place five hours before the second. During the 11 a.m. race, the squad fell to second place, 1.270 seconds behind the race winner Bowdoin for a time 6:40.008. At 4:00 p.m., the Owls were able to secure their spot in the Grand Finals, finishing in third place behind Stetson and Bowdoin with a time 6:43.746.
> Saturday's 2V4 Grand Final race will take place at 1:50 p.m.Â
> Drexel, Villanova, and Milwaukee were eliminated from Grand Finals contention and will face off in Finals two.
