PHILADELPHIA – Bruce Myers, who has ten years experience as a head men's tennis coach at the NCAA Division I level, has been named the assistant men's tennis coach at Temple University, announced head coach Steve Mauro.
"I am excited to welcome Bruce Myers to our Temple Tennis family," said Mauro, who won his 200th match as the Owls' head coach last season. "Bruce has done an amazing job in leading Bucknell the last six seasons and is a tremendous recruiter. Bringing him on board will help take our program to the next level."
"I want to thank Steve for this incredible opportunity," said Myers. "I truly appreciated my time at Bucknell, especially the athletics staff and the wonderful student-athletes I was fortunate to coach. We accomplished some great things there and am looking forward to doing the same here at Temple."
During his six years (2016-22) at the Bucknell helm, Myers coached five First Team All-Patriot League selections and four Academic All-Patriot League honorees. In 2021-22, Bison advanced to the Patriot League Tournament semifinals for the second time during his tenure.
Myers' 2022-23 recruiting class is ranked 27th among all Division I programs and sixth among Mid-Major programs by tennisrecruiting.net.
Prior to Bucknell, Myers spent the 2015-16 season as the head men's tennis coach at Delaware, where he helped the Blue Hens snap a 34-match losing streak and finish the season with three wins in its final six contests. Myers has also served as head women's coach and adjunct physical education professor at Longwood (2014-16), head men's and women's coach at North Carolina A&T (2013-14), and director of tennis and head men's and women's coach at his alma mater, Randolph-Macon (2012-13).
A 1993 Randolph-Macon graduate, Myers was a three-year captain and two-time All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference selection during his career with the NCAA Division III Yellow Jackets. After graduating with a degree in business economics, Myers entered the corporate world, serving as president and CEO of The National Financial News Services from 1993-2007 and owner and managing partner of Shoprate.com from 2006-08 before embarking on a tennis coaching career.
Myers and his wife, Samantha, have three sons: Joel, Brett and Xavier, and two stepsons: Evan and Ben.
