Temple Draws Penn 1-1 in Soccer Six Matchup

9.5.22 | Men's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA- The Temple men's soccer team (1-1-2, 0-0-0 AAC) picked up its second draw of the season Monday night at Penn. Temple scored in the first half to take an early lead before Penn tied it up in the second half.

How it Happened
> Both teams came out firing early. Penn had their first shot of the match only 51 seconds in. The attempt was easily saved by Gawronski. Temple responded with a shot from Yann Kouemi a few minutes later.
> Penn was controlling possession in the first 20 minutes, with another shot saved by Gawronski and one ringing off the post. The Owls took advantage of this aggressive play, successfully utilizing a counter-attack to score on a fast break chance. Forwards Sean Karani and Mike Eijgendaal had a fantastic back and forth resulting in a goal from Eijgendaal assisted by Karani. It was Karani's first point since the 2020-21 season.
> Penn and Temple stayed hot for the rest of the half. Gawronski made two more saves off Quaker shots. On the Owls side, Kouemi fired off his second shot of the game.
> The second half saw three yellow cards pulled in the first 15 minutes, all on Temple. The Quakers scored in the 60th minute to even the match.
> In the 75th minute freshman goalkeeper Micah Ramirez saw the first action of his career.
> Ramirez earned his keep quickly, making three saves in the next eight minutes.
> Either side could break through for the game winner, with the final tally coming up tied at 1.

Game Notes
> George Medill made his first career start after seeing the first game action of his career last match against No. 19/9 Georgetown
> Eijgendaal has either scored or assisted on all five of Temple's goals thus far in the season.
> Draven Barnett and Fridtjof Andberg played their fourth consecutive full 90s.
> Elyad Shojaei returned today after missing the last game due to a red card.
> Six cards were pulled in the match. Four on Temple and two on Penn.

From the Coach
