Davenport becomes the 22nd player in school history to achieve 1000 kills

DENTON, Texas – Senior outside hitter Taylor Davenport became the 22nd player in school history to reach 1,000 kills during Friday night's five-set loss at North Texas. Davenport led the Temple on the night as she tied for the match-high 15 kills in the 27-25, 13-25, 16-25, 25-20, 11-15 loss. The Cherry and White falls to 15-8 overall and 5-6 in the American Athletic Conference, while UNT improves to 13-11 overall and 7-4 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Led by Treyanunna Rush's 15 kills, North Texas spread its offense around in the win with four players having 10 or more kills. Additionally, Sh'Diamond Holly added 10 kills with a match-best .368 hitting percentage.
The Mean Green was out blocked by the Owls in set one, 7-2, but turned out that statistic over the final four sets by a 12-5 margin.
In their two set-wins (1, 4), the Cherry and White hit .278, while in the three set-losses, they would hit just .105.
Davenport became the first Owl since Izzy Rapacz in 2017 to reach 1,000 career kills.

SET 1 (TU 27, UNT 25)

Temple soared to a 5-1 lead with the help of a pair kills from Olivia Vance and Falanika Danielson, forcing UNT to use its first timeout of the set.
Out of their timeout, the Mean Green rallied to tie the score, 12-12, by going on a 11-6 run with a help of two kills apiece from Aryn Johnson, Rush, and Holly.
After tying the score, North Texas built a 22-18 lead. They used their efficient play to build its largest lead of set one, pair of Anyse Smith kills.
The Owls went on a 6-0 run and retook the lead, never allowing UNT go top late in the set. Over the last eight points of the set, middle blocker Chelci Banks had three of her six blocks on the night.

SET 2 (TU 13, UNT 25)

With the set closely contested at 4-3, North Texas forced Temple into a timeout as it ran off six straight points (10-3) that included a pair of aces from Johnson.
UNT didn't look back, going on another run of 6-2. In this span, the Mean Green got a pair of kills from Coco Gillett.
Four of the five Mean Green players that earned at least one kill in set one, hit .429 or better. As a team, UNT would win the set with a .542 hitting percentage.

SET 3 (TU 16, UNT 25)

UNT continued the momentum into set three as it started the on a 15-1 run, forcing the TU into nine hitting errors.

North Texas won the third set, leading wire-to-wire.
The Mean Green recorded five team blocks in the set victory with the help of Holly's three individual blocks.

SET 4 (TU 25, UNT 20)

Davenport had six of her 15 kills on the night in the set four victory.
As a team Temple hit .286, while holding UNT to .147.
Coming out of a North Texas timeout as the Owls led, 10-7, Temple continued its momentum, pushing its lead to five points with the help of two Davenport kills, and one each from Avery Luoma and Jelena Prolic.
Temple reeled off five straight points, including forcing Anyse Smith three straight block errors.

SET 5 (TU 11, UNT 15)

Temple continued its hot play starting set five. The Owls got out of the blocks, leading 4-0, with help of a service ace from Prolic and a block assist from Avery Luoma and Samantha Jo Mikosky.
UNT tied the score 8-8, getting kills from Smith and Kamryn Scroggins and then went on to win the set by getting four kills from four different players over their final seven points.
