Football Travels to North Texas

10.9.23 | Football

THIS WEEK

The Owls head to Denton, Texas, for the team's third American Athletic Conference matchup of the 2023 season. Temple is in search of its first road win of the season and its first conference victory. The game is set to air on ESPN+ and 97.5 The Fanatic at 12 p.m. ET.

LAST WEEK

Temple lost its homecoming game against UTSA, 49-34. The story of the game was Temple's offense, which came alive for 542 yards of total offense behind an excellent showing from QB E.J. Warner.

Warner threw for 472 yards and five passing touchdowns. The game marked his fourth career 300-yard game and third career 400-yard game. Warner broke his own record for pass attempts in a game with 65.

Warner now owns three of the top eight performances by an AAC quarterback in terms of pass completions. His 42 completions trail only Gardner Minshew (52), Greg Ward (47), Garrett Gilbert and Warner (45), Phillip Nelson (44), and tie Garrett Krstich and his own mark (42)

On offense, Temple's tight ends combined for 190 receiving yards on the day. TE David Martin-Robinson set a career-high with two receiving touchdowns, along with 112 receiving yards. WR John Adams had a carer day, catching 127 receiving yards and hauling in one touchdown. RB Darvon Hubbard totaled career highs in receiving yards (95) and receptions (8). TE Peter Clarke's touchdown in the fourth quarter, which cut UTSA's lead to one possession, was his first career catch and first career touchdown..

On the defensive side of the ball, LB Jordan Magee led Temple with 10 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and one sack. SAF Tywan Francis tied a career-high with nine solo tackles and finished the game with 10 total tackles.

Temple-North Texas History

The matchup between the Owls and Mean Green marks the first time that Temple and North Texas have ever played each other in football.

The addition of six new teams into the American Athletic Conference has created new matchups for Tem- ple that are unique to past seasons. Not only is the North Texas matchup a first, but Temple's conference games against UTSA and Alabama Birmingham, and non-conference game against Norfolk State, are all the first matchups between the respective schools.

UP NEXT

Up next, the Owls will return home for a Friday night game against SMU at Lincoln Financial Field on Oct. 20. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET and the game will air on ESPNU and 97.5 The Fanatic.
