Volleyball Falls to Memphis on Friday

MEMPHIS, Tenn.- The Temple Owls' volleyball team dropped to 17-12 overall and 7-10 in the American Athletic Conference on Friday night with a 3-0 defeat to Memphis Tigers, 21-25, 13-25, 19-25.

With the victory, Memphis improved to 9-20 overall and 5-12 in the AAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Tigers outhit the Owls on the night .210 to .075.
- Memphis' Autumn Flynn led all hitters in the match with 14 kills while hitting .522.
- The Tigers Riley Briggs was the only other hitter in the match to tally double-digit kills (10).
- Set one featured nine ties and six lead changes, but the Tigers had the advantage in sets two and three without relinquishing their lead.
- Temple's Jaaliyah Evans had a team-best nine kills on the night, becoming the first Owls' player this season other than Taylor Davenport, Olivia Vance, or Avery Luoma to lead the Owls in kills in a match.
SET 1 (TEM 22, MEM 25)
- With the Owls ahead, 9-8, Memphis went on a 7-1 run, including four straight that included a pair of kills from Flynn.
- The Tigers continued to hold the advantage, eventually pushing their lead to six points (23-17), before the Owls scored four straight of their own. In the rally, Olivia Vance and Jaaliyah Evans had back-to-back block assists.
- MU's Riley Briggs sealed the set win with her fourth kill of first stanza.
SET 2 (TEM 13, MEM 25)
- Before Temple could score its first point of the match, Memphis jumped out to a 6-0 lead, and for the Owls into their first timeout as it got off to an 8-1 start behind a pair of kills from Flynn.
- Temple used it last timeout of the set as Memphis pushed its lead to 13-2. Â In between the first and second timeout, Flynn added her third kill with Clara Bednarek adding two of her own.
- Flynn ended the set with five kills with a .559 hitting percentage.
SET 3 (TEM 19, MEM 25)
- Much like set two, set three began with the Tigers jumping out to a big advantage (8-2) , leaving the Cherry and White the inability to chase down Memphis.
- Just like the first two sets, Flynn led all hitters in kills during the set. The Tigers' hitter had five kills in the set while hitting a team-best .667
- Temple's Jaaliyah Evans hit a set-best .774 with four kills.
