BY THE NUMBERS
- Sam Hofman had his best shooting day as an Owl, connecting on a career-high tying five threes, also pulling in four rebounds.
- In his return to action, Jahlil White posted his third double-double of the year, leading the team with 10 rebounds and scored 14.
- Hysier Miller led Temple with a season-high nine assists and netted 16, all but one of his points coming in the second half. He also grabbed five rebounds.
- Steve Settle III and Matteo Picarelli each scored 12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams got off to a rough start from the floor. After a pair of Taj Thweatt free throws pulled the Owls back to a 10-7 game, an 8-2 run by VCU put Temple in an early hole.
- Temple started to find its rhythm midway through the first half as a three by Hofman and a layup by Settle clawed TU back to 20-14 at the 10:39 mark, however, an extended run by the Rams allowed them to build a double-digit lead into the break.
- Opening the second half Temple quickly chopped the lead to 55-43 as Hofman continued to fire well and Miller began to find the bottom of the net. Continuing the charge, the Owls cut further into the advantage as a trey by Settle brought the deficit to 64-54 with 9:31 remaining. Unfortunately, the Rams took the momentum back with a 7-0 run.
- The Owls made a final push, closing to within nine in the final two minutes.
