PHILADELPHIA – Temple lacrosse captain Belle Mastropietro was named to the 2023 Tewaaraton Preseason Watch List as announced Friday evening. The standout senior midfielder is one of 50 student-athletes to be named to the list, which showcases some of the most talented athletes in the college game.

Mastropietro, who was most recently named AAC Preseason Midfielder of the Year has built a strong resume while in her time with the Cherry and White. Prior to the start of the 2023 season, she had accumulated 145 points on 107 goals and 38 assists in her three-year career. The Springfield, Pa., native has proved her versatility, scooping up 71 ground balls, causing 38 turnovers and securing 192 draw controls.

Her efforts have not gone unnoticed as in just 2022 alone she was named Inside Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-America, First Team All-East Coast Athletic Conference, Second Team IWLCA All-Region, AAC Midfielder of the Year, Unanimous First Team All-Conference, AAC All-Tournament Team and the 2022 Preseason Midfielder of the Year.

About the Tewaaraton
The Tewaaraton Award is given annually to the top male and female college lacrosse players in the country. While the lacrosse community knows this honor well, those outside the sport may not, which is why you often see "the Heisman of lacrosse" noted after mentioning the award. Tewaaraton (pronounced teh-war-a-ton) is the word for "lacrosse" in the Mohawk language. The Iroquois Nation is believed to be the founder of the sport.

The Tewaaraton foundation is a nonprofit organization tasked with fulfilling the mission of the Tewaaraton Award. This includes recognizing excellence in the sport of lacrosse by annually honoring the most outstanding men's and women's college players and legends of the game. Honoring the Native American heritage of the sport through the Awards name and by integrating Native American traditions and culture throughout the program. Giving back to the Native American community in a meaningful way through educational scholarships and youth development.

The winner of the 2023 Tewaaraton Award will be presented on a to be determined date after the national championship for both men and women. Previous winners of the Tewaaraton Award include Charlotte North, Boston College (2021, 2022), Megan Taylor, Maryland (2019), Sam Apuzzo, Boston College (2018), and Zoe Stukenberg, Maryland (2017).
