Lacrosse Travels to Old Dominion for Conference Test Saturday

PHILADLEPHIA – Temple lacrosse (5-8, 0-3 AAC) is set to travel to Norfolk, Va., on Saturday, Apr. 15 to take on Old Dominion (4-10, 0-3 AAC) in conference play. First draw is set for 12 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

Series History vs. Old Dominion
The matchup between Temple and Old Dominion marks the 22nd time the teams' have met in program history, with an all-time record of 14-7. The Cherry and White are on a six-game winning streak that extends back to 2002.
Scouting Temple
- In Temple's most recent matchup, the Owls fell to crosstown rival Drexel, 10-9 in double overtime. The Owls trailed by three with six minutes left in the fourth quarter, but a three-goal run, which included two goals from Belle Mastropietro and one from Camryn Zavacky tied the game up to force play into overtime.
- Goalie Taylor Grollman had an impressive showing against the Dragons, posting nine saves, which included three in the first overtime period to force the contest into double overtime. Grollman now advances to 90 saves on the year with a 10.62 GAA.
- Maddie Barber led the defensive efforts, posting one of the best games of her career on six ground balls, four caused turnovers and seven draw controls. The junior now advances to 31 groundballs, 17 caused turnovers and 43 draw controls on the year.
- Zavacky and Maeve Tobin stepped up for the Owls, with Zavacky leading offensive production on three goals. Tobin followed behind with two, along with Mastropietro. Tobin and Zavacky have now combined for 41 points in 2023.
- Prior to Drexel, the Owls have faced an extremely competitive schedule, facing off against five teams ranked either in the top 25 or receiving votes. Teams include Ohio State (RV), No. 17 Princeton, No. 16 Yale, No. 5 JMU and No. 9 Florida.
- Mastropietro continues to lead the Owls in multiple statistical categories including goals (31), points (46) and draw controls (79).
- Junior Katie Shallow continues to lead the team in groundballs (37) and caused turnovers (20). Her 2.85 groundballs per game ranks third in the conference, and her 1.54 caused turnovers per game ranks fourth.
Scouting Old Dominion
- Old Dominion enters the matchup with a 4-10 record, which includes a 0-3 conference slate. The Monarchs have showed an even performance both at home and on the road, posting a 2-5 record for each.
- Old Dominion has found wins over Elon, Radford, Longwood, and Mount Saint Mary's. Their largest scoring margin came over the Radford, where they defeated the Highlanders 13-3.
- Sophomore Sydney Taylor leads the team in points (27) on 19 goals and eight assists. Her eight assists ranks first on the squad, while her 19 goals ties for first.
- Following close behind is graduate student Danielle Dundas, who has posted 23 points on 19 goals and four assists.
- Jenna Peccia has assumed the primary role of goalie for Old Dominion, posting 127 saves and scooping up 52 ground balls. She ranks second in the conference in both statistical categories with 9.07 saves per game and 3.71 ground balls per game.
- Junior Maria Rekus has led the defensive unit with 26 caused turnovers, ranking second in the conference, averaging 1.86 caused turnovers per game.
- Fellow defender Katie McGrain follows closely behind with 20 caused turnovers in addition to 34 groundballs.
