Temple Lacrosse to Host East Carolina for Senior Day Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – Temple lacrosse (6-8, 1-3 AAC) is set to host East Carolina (10-5, 3-1 AAC) on Saturday, Apr. 22. The game will serve as Senior Day in which seven student-athletes and two student managers will be honored. Mackenzie Roth, Maeve Tobin, Belle Mastropietro, Gabrielle Kirsch, Julie Schickling, Charessa Crosse, Riley McGowan, Sela Fusco and Luke Bagley will be recognized for their contributions to the program at the conclusion of the contest. First draw is set for 12 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
 
Scouting Temple 
  • In Temple's most recent matchup, the Owls posted a dominant win over Old Dominion, throttling past the Monarchs 19-5 on the road. The Cherry and White saw goal scoring contributions from ten different athletes, the most of 2023.
  • Prior to ODU, Temple welcomed crosstown rival Drexel on Wednesday, Apr. 12, falling to the Dragons 10-9 in double overtime. The Owls trailed by three with six minutes left in the fourth quarter, but a three-goal run, which included two goals from Belle Mastropietro and one from Camryn Zavacky tied the game up and led to overtime. 
  • Maddie Barber led the defensive efforts in the Owls 1-1 week combining for nine groundballs, five caused turnovers, and ten draw controls. Her six groundball, four caused turnover, and seven draw control performance against Drexel served as one of the best games of her career, earning Weekly Honor Roll recognition for her efforts.  
  • Charessa Crosse also had a standout week, earning Weekly Honor Roll recognition after posting six points, which included three goals and two assists over ODU. 
  • Temple remains in the Top 50 in three statistical categories including draw control percentage (24th), ground balls per game (39th) and scoring defense (42nd). 
  • Mastropietro continues to lead the squad in goals (33), assists (18), points (51) and draw controls (82). Her 5.86 draw controls per game ranks second in the AAC and 25th nationally, while her 2.36 goals per game ranks sixth in the conference.  
Scouting East Carolina
  • East Carolina enters the matchup with a 10-5 record which includes a 3-1 conference slate. The Pirates have posted a 5-1 away record, while going 5-4 on their home turf. 
  • The Pirates have seen a highly competitive schedule thus far, facing off against four teams in the Top 25 or receiving votes in Navy (RV), No. 18 Duke, No. 5 UNC, and No. 9 Florida. Of these ranked matchup, East Carolina has not lost by more than a five-goal differential. 
  • Frances Kimel has established herself as a dominant offensive force, tallying 67 points on 39 goals and 28 assists. Kimel leads the team in all three statistical categories, while ranking first in the conference in assists per game (1.87) and second in points (4.47). 
  • The trio of Erin Gulden, Leah Bestany and Ellie Bromley have been valuable contributors, with Gulden posting 32 points, while Bestany and Bromley have posted 31. 
  • Flynn Reed has been dominant on the draw, leading the team with 76 draw controls. 
  • The Pirates have looked to Alexandra Giacolone and Sydney Frank on defense, with the pair combing for 47 caused turnovers. Giacolone leads the team with 24, in addition to her team-leading 41 ground balls while frank has caused 23 turnovers in addition to scooping up 33 groundballs. 
  • Sophomore Brynn Knight has started in all 15 of the Pirates matchups in 2023, posting 135 saves for a .519 save percentage, ranking second in the AAC.
 
Series History vs. East Carolina 
The matchup between Temple and East Carolina marks the sixth time the teams' have met in program history, with an all-time record of 5-0. The two last met in 2022, where the Owls defeated the pirates 15-10 on the road.
