Temple Athletics Continues to Excel in the Classroom

5.2.23 | General

PHILADELPHIA –The NCAA released its four-year Academic Progress Rate (APR), its measuring tool for success in the classroom, and seven Temple University athletics programs received a perfect 1000 score.

Overall, Temple posted a 990 multiyear APR which is tied for third with SMU in the AAC and ranked 24th nationally among FBS institutions. Also, Temple is one of 10 FBS institutions to earn an average score at 990 or above in each of the past six years that the metric was released publicly by the NCAA.   The other institutions to accomplish this feat are Arizona State, Duke, Michigan, Minnesota, Navy, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Rice, and Vanderbilt.

"Congratulations to our student-athletes on another amazing academic achievement," said Temple University Vice President and Director of Athletics Arthur Johnson. "I also want to commend the student-athletes for putting in the work while thanking Tara Evans, Director of the Nancy and Donald Resnick Center, and her academic staff for their tremendous work with our student-athletes.  It is through their hard work behind the scenes, as well as the support from our coaches to our academic mission, that this success is possible."

The seven Temple programs with perfect APR scores are Men's Basketball, Field Hockey, Men's Golf, Women's Fencing, Women's Gymnastics, Women's Lacrosse and Women's Soccer. Since 2015-16, 41 Owl teams have earned perfect 1000 APR scores, which ties for 10th among all FBS schools.

Temple men's basketball is one of only ten FBS institutions and one of 24 among all 357 NCAA Division I programs with a perfect APR score.  It is also the fifth consecutive 1000 multi-year APR score for the program and the Owls join Belmont, Columbia and Villanova as the only Division I schools to accomplish this feat.

Women's soccer recorded its ninth consecutive year with a perfect 1000 single year APR while women's lacrosse accomplished the feat for the seventh straight year and field hockey recorded its sixth consecutive perfect single year APR score.
