Mastropietro Named Co-Midfielder of the Year, Four Owls Earn All-AAC Honors

IRVING, Texas – Four members of the Temple lacrosse squad have received American Athletic Conference post-season honors, as voted on by the league coaches and announced Wednesday afternoon. Senior Belle Mastropietro headlined the awards, being named one of the two Midfielders of the Year, alongside Florida's Emily Heller while also earning a spot on the First Team. Katie Shallow joined Mastropietro as a First Team All-Conference selection while Maddie Barber and Mackenzie Roth were named Second Team All-Conference.
Mastropietro has now claimed the AAC Midfielder of the Year award for the second year in a row, while placing on the All-Conference First Team for her third consecutive season. The award comes to no surprise as the Springfield, Pa., native claimed Preseason Midfielder of the Year recognition in early February and placed on the Preseason All-Conference team. Mastropietro was a standout in almost all statistical categories, leading the team in goals, points, assists, and draw controls. The senior posted 59 points on 39 goals and 20 assists, while adding 94 draw controls, 15 caused turnovers, and 17 groundballs. Her 94 draw controls rank second in the conference in draw controls per game (5.88), while her 3.69 points per game ranks sixth. In addition, Mastropietro won weekly awards six times throughout the duration of the 2023 campaign.
Junior Defender Katie Shallow joined Mastropietro as a First Team All-Conference selection. This award serves as her first time as a First Team selection, after being named Second Team All-Conference in 2022. The Havertown, Pa., native led the Owls defensive unit, leading the squad in both caused turnovers (23) and groundballs (43). Her 2.69 groundballs per game and 1.44 caused turnovers per game rank third in the conference standings, while her groundball average clocked in at 28th nationally. Shallow's success was showcased throughout the season, as she earned four weekly awards, two of which were Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Defensive counterpart Maddie Barber joined Shallow on the post-season award list, being named Second Team All-Conference for her second consecutive year. Barber helped to headline the defensive unit, grabbing 36 groundballs, 54 draw controls and causing 19 turnovers. Her 3.38 draw controls per game and 1.18 caused turnovers per game rank eighth in the conference, while her 2.25 groundballs per game rank seventh.
Mackenzie Roth, a 2023 Preseason All-Conference selection earned a spot on the Second Team All-Conference squad. The Schnecksville, Pa., native ranked second on the team in points (37), on 21 goals and 16 assists. With 16 assists this year, Roth advanced to 76 in her career to rank sixth all time in career assists at Temple.
