Four Owls Return to North Broad for Fifth Year

PHILADELPHIA – Temple lacrosse Head Coach Bonnie Rosen has announced that four decorated Owls plan to return to North Broad for a fifth season via their COVID-19 eligibility waiver. Belle Mastropietro, Maeve Tobin, Julie Schickling and Mackenzie Roth are among the four who plan to return for the Cherry and White for one last season of play at Howarth Field.
"We are so excited to welcome back Belle, Mackenzie, Julie, and Maeve for their 5th years," Rosen said. "Each one of them had outstanding senior seasons but I believe that was just a glimpse of the players they can be. The sky is truly the limit for what they can do on the lacrosse field and what they can help Temple accomplish this year! I am grateful for the opportunity to coach them for another year and I am thrilled that they will experience the joy that comes with pursuing athletic dreams with wonderful teammates!"
Mastropietro, one of the most decorated student-athletes under Head Coach Bonnie Rosen will return in the Cherry and White to the lead the midfield unit. The senior has played and started in all 59 games of her career, amassing 204 career points on 146 goals and 58 assists. Her 204 points ranks eighth all-time in program history. Where the midfielder has truly stood out is the draw control. The Springfield, Pa., native holds both the single season draw control record (105) and the all-time draw control record (286) at Temple. Throughout her career, she has amassed a multitude of awards at conference, regional and national level. She is a three-time First Team All-Conference selection, two-time AAC Preseason Midfielder of the Year, two-time AAC Midfielder of the Year, First Team All East Coast Athletic Conference, two-time IWLCA Second Team All-Region, Inside Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-American, amongst many other weekly awards.
Tobin, a four-year midfielder for the Cherry and White, returns to North Broad after an impressive career. The Ridgefield, Conn., native has combined for 39 points on 35 goals and four assists, with all of them coming in the past two seasons. In 2023 alone, she netted 22 goals while adding three assists to rank third on the squad in goals and fifth in points. Her 13-goal performance in 2022 proved to be enough to earn Second Team All-Conference honors.
Schickling returns for the Owls after an impressive 2023 campaign, where she ranked second on the team in goals, with 26. The Springfield, Pa., native had seven multi-goal games in 2023, the most of her career, which included a career-best of four goals in the 10-9 loss to Ohio State (RV). TThroughout her four-year career, she has posted 60 points on 58 goals and two assists.
Roth, a versatile attacker for the Owls rounds out the fifth-year returners. The Schnecksville, Pa., native has had an impressive career in the Cherry and White, posting 141 points on 65 goals and 76 assists. After dishing out 16 assists in 2023, she ranks seventh all-time in career assists, just 14 assists behind the all-time leader, Gail Cummings ('88). After ranking second on the team in points this past season, with 37, Mackenzie Roth was named Second Team All-Conference. This award serves as her second postseason honor from the AAC, after earning First Team All-Conference honors in 2022.
The Owls will return to the field for fall exhibition play in late September.
