Temple Cross Country Announces 2023 Schedule

7.20.23 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country

PHILADELPHIA – On Thursday, assistant cross country coaches Collin Zeffer and Charlotte Imer announced the men's and women's cross country schedule for the 2023 season. The regular season involves four meets leading up to the American Athletic Conference Championships on Oct. 28, including the Owls' first home meet since the 2018 season, and the first-ever meet at Temple's Ambler, Pa. satellite campus.

According to Zeffer and Imer, both assistant coaches are excited for the outlook of the cross country season.

"I'm really excited for this upcoming fall season. We are returning just about all of our top guys from last year and adding some new faces who will have a big impact. We have our sights set on big goals and the team and I are excited and hungry to get back to work together this fall," expressed the men's coach Zeffer. "We have a great group of experienced guys who are returning, knowing what it takes to be at the competitive level that we want to be at. I'm looking forward to a successful fall."

Women's coach Imer reiterated her colleague's sentiment, "The women's team is excited to return to campus to get the season started as we are looking forward to a fun and competitive 2023 cross country season!"

The Owls begin the season with three consecutive meets in the state of Pennsylvania.

The Cherry and White open the slate at home on Sept. 1 in Ambler, Pa., hosting Temple Owls Cross Country Invitational.

Coach Zeffer stated, "We'll be kicking off our season with a revamped home meet, The Temple Owls Cross Country Invitational, taking place at our satellite campus in Ambler, where we will host a few local teams." Coach Imer also added, "Being based in Philadelphia, we're at a great geographic advantage in terms of having access to strong competition nearby."

The Owls will stay in Pennsylvania for the next two meets, starting with Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational on Sept. 8 at Penn State University and then two weeks later on Sept. 30, both teams will be at the Paul Short Run.

"Racing at Paul Short will be a valuable experience for our runners as we will compete on the same course for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship later this fall (Nov. 10)", said Imer.

From there, Temple will travel to Greenville, N.C. in October for a pair of back-to-back meets at East Carolina University.

Starting with the Pirate Invitational on Oct. 14, the Cherry and White will be on the Lake Kristi course and will return to the same course just two weeks later (Oct. 28) for the 2023 AAC Cross Country Championships.

With qualifying times throughout the season, both Owls' teams hope to find themselves in Charlottesville, Va. on Nov. 18 for the NCAA Championships.
