Women's Soccer Hosts Villanova Sunday Evening

PHILADELPHIA- The Temple women's soccer team continues their home appearances Sunday as the Owls face off against Villanova Wildcats, a Big 5 Rival. This is the second Family Day for the Owls, where families are encouraged to participate in lawn games, coloring pages, and inflatables during the match. Â
Scouting Temple
- Temple held Rider to a tie on Thursday evening as the Cherry & White led 11-7 in shots.
- Freshman goalkeeper Tamsin Bynoe impressed with her first clean sheet of her career.Â
- Team captain, Nicole Sweeney, had a stellar game from both sides of the pitch, getting two shots off on offense while making a team save on defense.Â
- Although Rider's goalkeeper stopped each shot by the Owls, Temple's shots on goal and defensive saves led to a positive swing to the young season.Â
Scouting VillanovaÂ
- The Wildcats stand at 1-0-1 at the start of the season, with a victory over Marist College and a tie against Lehigh University.
- Villanova finished eighth in the Big East conference last season, and opened the 2023 season with a 3-0 shutout against Marist college.
- The team returns Megan McClay, a graduate goalkeeper, who has started 40 games through three seasons at Villanova, and obtained a .805 save percentage last season.
- Samar Azem is the eighth head coach in Villanova women's soccer history. She recently joined the Wildcat's staff after five seasons at Campbell University, where she led the team to their first Big South Championship since 1993. For three seasons under Azem's coaching, Campbell was ranked in the national top 10 for scoring offense.

- This is the 5th match between the two sides. The two met last in 2021, with a 3-0 win by Temple being the result.
