Owls Volleyball Remains Undefeated on Season after Five-Set Win Against Dartmouth

Temple was 7-4 last season in five-set matches.

TOWSON, Md. – The Temple volleyball team improved 5-0 on Friday afternoon with a 3-2 (25-14, 22-25, 25-11, 22-25, 15-8) victory over the Dartmouth Big Green. For the fifth consecutive match, the Owls were lead by senior outside hitter Taylor Davenport as she earned her second double-double of the season with a season-high 24 kills and 10 digs.

With the victory, the Cherry & White move to one win away from tying the 2014 Temple Owls' volleyball team for the second-longest win streak (6) to start a start a season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

As a team, the Owls gutted out the victory with the help of three players earning double-doubles.
Graduate transfer Avery Luoma added her first career double-double in an Owls' uniform as she put together 12 kills and 13 digs.
Freshman setter Lexi Yoza added a team-high 24 and 10 digs.
The Owls defense held Dartmouth to a .053 hitting percentage. Additionally, no Big Green player recorded double-digit kills in the match.

Set 1 (TU 25, DC 14)

The Owls came out hitting .345 in the first set with Davenport (4) and junior Chelci Banks (3) the only TU players with more than two kills.
Both Davenport and Banks hit .571 and .429 respectively in the set win.
The Columbia, S.C. native Davenport had a three of her match-high five aces in set one.

Set 2 (TU 24, DC 26)

Dartmouth held Davenport in check in the second set as she hit .143 with just six kills on 21 total attacks.
With the score 16-15 in favor of the Owls, sophomore Nalani McBride forced Dartmouth to take a timeout as she extended her team's lead to four with her back-to-back aces.
The Cherry and White pushed its lead to five points, but the Big Green went on a 8-2 to run to win the set.

Set 3 (TU 25, DC 23)

Luoma, Davenport, and graduate transfer Jelena Prolic had at least three kills in the third set. Luoma added three, while Davenport and Prolic assisted with four apiece.
The Owls held the Big Green to a .080 in set three, while hitting .400 in the set win

Set 4 (TU 22, DC 25)

Neither side would hit .100 in the fourth set but Dartmouth squeaked the set win.
Dartmouth led from the very first point start and never looked back to earn the set victory.

Set 5 (TU 15, DC 8)

Davenport took charge offensively in the final set as she had five of her match-high 24 kills.
With the set five tied 1-1, Davenport went back to the service line and ran off four consecutive points, including her final ace of the night.
After getting a sideout on the very next play, defensive specialist Falanika Danielson also added a service ace to extend the lead to 6-2.
The reigning American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week (Davenport) sealed the Owls' fifth win of the season by connecting on the final three points on three of her 24 kills.
