Owls in the NFL: Week 1

PHILADELPHIA — As Temple's football season is well underway and heading into week 3 of the season, let's look back at an eventful week 1 in the NFL for former Owls' players. Of the 11 former Owls on NFL active rosters (another six are on practice squads and/or Injured Reserve), nine suited up to play this past weekend to kick off the season.
Defensive end Jacob Martin (2014-17) made his debut for the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday. Unfortunately, the home opener did not go as planned as the Colts lost, 31-21, to AFC South division rivals, the Jacksonville Jaguars and former Owls, Christian Braswell (2018-20) and Brandon McManus (2009-12). McManus, who also made his debut with a new team, scored seven points (one FG & 4 PATs), including a 45-yard field goal.
Defensive lineman Arnold Ebiketie (2017-20) and the Atlanta Falcons beat former teammate, Sam Franklin (2016-19) and NFC South division rivals, the Carolina Panthers, 24-10. Ebiketie recorded one tackle and one quarterback hit, while Franklin had one tackle.
Philadelphia and linebacker Haason Reddick (2013-16) helped lead the Eagles to an important win in week 1 on the road over the New England Patriots, 25-20. Reddick recorded one tackle and one quarterback hit.
Wide Receiver Keith Kirkwood (2014-17) and the New Orleans Saints beat the Tennessee Titans, 16-15, in a very close field goal battle. Kirkwood had just one target but also contributed on special teams.
Cornerback Rock Ya-Sin (2018) and the Baltimore Ravens beat the Houston Texans 25-6 in their home opener.
On Monday Night, offensive tackle Dion Dawkins (2013-16), linebacker Tyler Matakevich (2012-15), and the Buffalo Bills lost to AFC East division rivals, the New York Jets, 22-16, in a thrilling overtime ending. The Bills offense had over 30 minutes of possession and gained over 300 yards. Matakevich picked up where he left off last season, as he showed his excellence captaining the special teams.
