Owls Hang Tough with Pirates

1.10.24 | Men's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA – Three players scored in double figures for the Temple University men's basketball team, but a tough second half saw the Owls topped by the East Carolina Pirates 73-62 on Wednesday evening.

BY THE NUMBERS
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Early on it was Dezonie and Riley leading the way for Temple as the duo scored the first 11 points for the Owls. In particular, Dezonie started 3-for-3 with a trio of rebounds and four second chance points.
  • The game remained close throughout the opening 20 minutes as neither team held more than a six-point lead in the frame. Down the stretch, East Carolina went on a 12-4 run as the Pirates took a 33-31 lead into the break.
  • ECU came out hot in the second half, building a double-digit advantage. The Owls cut the lead down to seven on a layup through traffic by Steve Settle III midway through the half. TU remained in striking distance, before East Carolina pulled away in the closing moments.
