Men's Basketball Competes in Defensive Contest Against UNT

DENTON, Texas – Jahlil White and Jordan Riley each scored in double figures as the Temple University men's basketball team locked horns in a defensive battle with the North Texas Mean Green before being upended 69-51 on Saturday afternoon.

BY THE NUMBERS

Jordan Riley posted 13 to lead the team, adding seven boards.
Jahlil White scored 12 points, 10 of them coming in the second half. He also grabbed seven rebounds and came away with three steals.
Hysier Miller scored eight with three assists.
Sam Hofman netted six and pulled down five boards.
Deuce Roberts scored his first career point in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Early on the Owls defense helped keep them in the game, forcing three North Texas turnovers in the opening eight minutes. It was the Mean Green who found its stroke first, opening a 21-14 lead with seven minutes remaining in the frame before a pull-up jumper by Miller stemmed the tide.

A three-pointer by Matteo Picarelli was followed quickly by a triple from Hofman as Temple started to knock down shots from beyond the arc. Unfortunately, the North Texas defense tightened from there as UNT went on a 9-3 run to close the half, taking a 32-22 lead into the break.

In the second half, White and Riley each did their part to carry the offense and the Owls played evenly with North Texas for the first 12 minutes of the stanza. From that point, UNT slowly pulled away, cementing the final score.
