IRVING, Texas – Temple University senior guard Tiarra East was named to the Preseason All-American Athletic Conference Second Team, as announced by the league on Friday.
East, who led the Owls in scoring (13.3 ppg) and steals (50) a season ago, was named to the All-AAC Second Team last season after helping the squad to a 20 wins and a regular-season conference title.
As a team, Temple was chosen to finish eighth out of 13 teams, with South Florida, led by Preseason Co-Player of the Year Romi Levy, picked as the preseason favorite and garnering eight first-place votes. Last season, the Owls were selected ninth in the preseason poll, but finished 13-5 to tie with North Texas and Tulsa for first place.
Defending AAC Tournament champion Rice, who returns the other Preseason Co-Player of the Year Tommisha Lampkin, received a pair of first-place votes and is ranked second in the preseason poll, along with North Texas who received the remaining three first-place tallies.
For the fifth straight season, the American Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championship will be contested at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Play is scheduled to begin on March 8, culminating with the title game on Wednesday, March 12.
