Jones Leads Temple with 15 Kills Versus Rice

PHILADELPHIA – Freshman Sydney Jones recorded 15 kills on Sunday afternoon, her 15th time reaching double-digits for the season, but the Temple Owls volleyball team fell to 11-13 on the season and 3-7 in American Athletic Conference play after a 23-25, 21-25, 14-25 loss to Rice (14-6, 8-2).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- RU held TU to a .133 hitting percentage behind Lademi Ogunlana's five blocks.
- Sophomore Lexi Yoza added her sixth double-double of the season with 28 assists and 10 digs on the afternoon.
- Rice was led by Katrina Jensen with 16 kills on .500 hitting percentage.
SET 1 (TEM 23, RICE 25)
- The Cherry and White started off hot with a 12-6 lead after Sydney Jones' five kills in the first set.
- Yoza dished out double-digit (10) assists to aid the TU offense.
- The set ended in a highly contested bout, seeing the score stay within one point from 17-16 until the final point of the set.
SET 2 (TEM 21, RICE 25)
- Alyssa Finister provided Temple with accuracy in the set with a .500 hitting percentage.
- The Arizona native, Yoza, managed to replicate her earlier success with 10 more assists in the set.
- Up by 16-10 at one point, the Cherry and White faced a Rice offense that proceeded to go on a 15-5 run to end set.
SET 3 (TEM 14, RICE 25)
- Rice hit .372 while keeping Temple at .075 hitting percentage in the third set.
- Rice's offense finished the match with a 12-4 run, led by Jensen's seven kills.
