Owls in the NFL - Week 8

10.29.24 | Football

We're now in the meat of the NFL season and we're seeing some of our Owls make their long-awaited season debut. More than a dozen former Temple players in the NFL are now hoping to help paint a playoff picture for their respective teams. Let's check in on our guys…

Chicago's Jacob Martin (2014-17) made his return to the active roster this week. The seventh-year defensive end recorded three tackles in the Bears 15-18 loss to the Washington Commanders. On the other sideline, Washington's Jordan Magee (2019-23) was activated from injured reserve prior to Sunday's game and made his debut for the Commanders this week. The rookie linebacker didn't record any tackles but will look for more opportunities in the coming weeks as he continues to acclimate to the NFL.

New York Jets' Haason Reddick (2013-16) played his first game this week against the division rival New England Patriots. In his return, Reddick recorded two quarterback pressures as he looks to get adjusted to game speed after missing the first half of the season due to a contract dispute. Jets' tight end Kenny Yeboah (2016-19) appears close to his return but was downgraded to out prior to Sunday's match-up.

Carolina's Sam Franklin Jr. (2016-19) came back from injury reserve after a foot injury sidelined the fifth-year safety for the first seven games. Franklin got his on-field work with the Panthers' special teams' unit.

Green Bay's Brandon McManus (2009-12) kicked a perfect six for six in Sunday's win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, including three extra points and three field goals, one of which was a 24-yard game-winning field goal. In his two games with the Packers, McManus is 10 for 10 in field goals and on back-to-back weeks made the game-winning field goal.

The Buffalo Bills reached a new season-high with 164 rushing yards behind left tackle Dion Dawkins (2013-16) and the rest of the Bills offensive line. Bills' running back James Cook ran for two touchdowns through lanes created by Dawkins including a pancake block in the fourth quarter that led to an 8-yard touchdown run to seal the 31-10 win.

Atlanta's Arnold Ebiketie (2017-20) recorded one tackle in Sunday's NFC South match-up against the Buccaneers. Ebiketie now has 12 total tackles this season.

David Martin-Robinson (2018-23) and the Tennessee Titans faced off against Michael Niese (2016-21) and the Detroit Lions in what turned out to be a 38-point win for the Lions. Martin-Robinson was active but did not take the field this week for the Titans. Niese subbed in at center with the rest of the Lions second string unit in the fourth quarter.

San Francisco's Rock Ya-Sin (2015-18) was active on Sunday, but didn't see any action in the 49ers win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Pittsburgh's Tyler Matakevich (2012-15) was ruled out prior to Monday night's game against the New York Giants. Matakevich has missed six straight games after suffering a hamstring injury in week 2.

There are four Owls currently on practice squad rosters:
  • Shaun Bradley – (2016-19) Houston Texans
  • Christian Braswell – (2017-20) Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Keith Kirkwood (2014-17) – Baltimore Ravens
  • William Kwenkeu (2016-21) – Baltimore Ravens
