PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Neither team scored in the run of play, but a penalty stroke goal by No. 10 UConn in the third quarter allowed the Huskies to escape with a 1-0 win against the Temple field hockey team in the BIG EAST championship game on Sunday.

HONORS

Alizé Maes, Tess Muller and Agustina Tucceri were all named to the All-Tournament Team.
Maes was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year.
Maes and Muller were on the BIG EAST First Team. Devin Kinzel was on the Second Team.

RECAP

Temple ends the season with 12 wins, giving them double digit wins in three consecutive years for the first time since 2012-14.
The team also went 9-0 at home, its first undefeated season on campus since 1981.
TU advanced to the BIG EAST championship game for the first time since 2015.
The Cherry and White defeated four ranked teams during the course of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Isabella Ospitale was pressed into service early, making a save off a turnover just more than two minutes into the contest. Following that, the Owls had the better of play in the quarter, applying pressure, however, the teams ended the frame scoreless.
The second period was more open and free-flowing for both teams with each getting opportunities inside their offensive 25, but the defenses stood strong and did not allow any shots to be generated in the quarter.
The Huskies broke the ice on a penalty stroke at the 3:19 mark of the third period. The Owls had a chance with four minutes remaining in the quarter on a corner, but the initial shot was blocked and the rebound went just wide.
The Owls had two last chances late in the fourth on corners, but both were saved at the last second.
