Volleyball Sweeps North Texas on Alumni Day

PHILADELPHIA, PA. – Freshman Sydney Jones recorded 15 kills and a career-high 16 digs for her eighth double-double of the season on Sunday afternoon, leading the Temple volleyball team to a 25-20, 27-25, 25-21 sweep over the North Texas Mean Green.

The Owls return to the court on Friday, November 15 with their final home match of the regular season against East Carolina. The match at McGonigle Hall is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start time. Temple then travels south to face off against Charlotte on Sunday, Nov. 17 in the final regular-season match for both teams. Both matches will be available on ESPN+.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- TU held UNT to a .163 hitting percentage behind Chelci Banks' four blocks.
- Jones (15) and graduate student Taylor Davenport (13) teamed up for 28 kills on the afternoon.
- North Texas was led by Payton Van Veen's 10 kills and two blocks.
- The Cherry and White were led by a fast offensive start from Davenport with five kills.
- Lexi Yoza dished out 13 assists to aid the TU offense.
- With the game tied at 10-10, an 8-2 spurt from the Owls gave them an 18-12 advantage.
- Temple had set point at 24-15, before the Mean Green scored five straight to make things interesting.
- Chelci Banks closed out the set and gave the Owls a 1-0 lead with a kill.
- Jones picked up four kills and hit .300 in a closely contested second set.
- Temple scored 10 of the first 15 points to take control early, and led 18-11 before the Mean Green again rallied late.
- UNT scored eight of the next 11 points, including a run of six straight, to cut Temple's lead to 21-19 and force a timeout.
- The Owls came back and had a pair of set points at 24-22 and 24-23, both of which were fended off.
- Temple had three more set points, five in total, before the sixth finally resulted in a point for the Owls.
- North Texas took the early lead in the third set, and held a 7-4 edge before Temple ran off three straight to tie things up.
- The set remained nip and tuck before three straight from the Owls, which included kills from Christiana Greene and Jones, gave the home team a 14-11 advantage.
- Temple held a two-point cushion the rest of the way and Jones finished things off in style with consecutive kills to clinch the win.
