PHILADELPHIA, PA. – Reigning American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week Sydney Jones recorded 18 kills and 12 digs for her ninth double-double of the season on Friday night in a five-set match against the East Carolina Pirates. After a back and forward match, Temple fell short in the end, 3-2 (22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-25, 9-15). The Cherry and White are now 13-16 overall, 5-10 in the AAC.

SET 1 (ECU 25, TEM 22)
  • The Pirates started the match off fast with five of the first six points.
  • Temple freshman Christiana Greene was able to end their momentum with a kill, assisted by Lexi Yoza.
  • The visitors continued to build momentum and led 24-18 and on the verge of winning the first set.
  • With ECU at set point, the Owls went on a 6-0 run to pull within two and force the Pirates to timeout. East Carolina finished the set off, however, with a kill from Aulie Huff.
  • Alyssa Finister provided four kills with a .667 hitting percentage to aid a comeback for TU.
SET 2 (TEM 25, ECU 23)
  • The Cherry and White's momentum at the end of the first set carried over as they went on an explosive 6-2 start to the second set.
  • Six kills from Sydney Jones led the set to help the Owls outscore the Pirates, 16-11, to begin the period.
  • After gaining the lead with the first two points, TU never game up the lead or allowed East Carolina to tie the set up.
  • A kill by Finister ended any hope for an ECU comeback and closed out the set to tie the match at 1-1.
SET 3 (TEM 25, ECU 23)
  • A kill by Chelci Banks started the set off, as the Owls continued to build momentum.
  • The Pirates held the largest lead of the set at 12-9 before a 6-1 run from the Owls swung the lead back into Temple's favor, 15-13.
  • The most contested set of the match, the third set saw 13 ties and four lead changes.
  • Two kills from Taylor Davenport, both assisted by Yoza, gave the Owls the set win.
SET 4 (ECU 25, TEM 15)
  • East Carolina captured the first two points of the set, a streak quickly ended by a kill from Jones.
  • Jones and Davenport combined for eight kills with four a piece to lead the entire set on offense.
  • After an ace from Davenport brought the Owls within four, ECU went on a 6-0 run to tie the match at 2-2.
SET 5 (ECU 15, TEM 9)
  • The fifth and final set was a close one, with no team having more than a two-point advantage going into the media timeout.
