UNCASVILLE, Conn. - The Temple University men's basketball team fought to the finish but fell to Florida State, 78-69, on the opening day of the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off event on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Owls got off to a hot start, scoring nine straight points after the Seminoles opened the scoring with a putback layup.
Mashburn Jr. connected on a pair of buckets over the stretch, putting Temple in front 9-2 with 16:25 left in the first half.
Temple led for the majority of the first half, before FSU pulled back in front on a three-pointer by Jerry Deng.
The Seminoles entered the locker room with a 39-33 advantage, and pushed the lead to double figures at the 18:07 mark on a free throw by Jamir Watkins.
Florida State pushed the margin to 14 but Temple continued to fight throughout, pulling to within six on a driving bucket from Steve Settle III with 8:26 on the clock.
That is as close as it would get, however, as the Seminoles improved to 5-1 with the win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Mashburn Jr. closed with 20 points on 6-of-15 shooting and connected on seven of his 12 free-throw attempts.
Both teams struggled from the free throw line, with both teams shooting 62.5% (Temple - 20-32; Florida State - 15-24).
Joining Mashburn Jr. in double figures were Zion Stanford with 15 points and Settle III with 14 on 5-of-9 shooting.
Florida State had 15 fast-break points to Temple's 6.
Jamir Watkins led FSU with 19 points, including a 10-of-13 performance from the charity stripe.
