Five Owls Named CSC Academic All-District

<strong>GREENWOOD, Ind. -</strong> Elias Betancourt, Alex Champagne, Diego Diaz, Jayden Jackson and Paolo Kampula of the Temple University men's soccer have each been named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District as announced by the organization. The award recognizes top student-athletes for their work on the court and in the classroom. <br />
<br />
Betancourt was a strong contributor for the Owls, starting in 11 of Temple's 17 matches. He recorded an assist in TU's season opener against Army and fired two shots on goal this season. His 14 shots this season are tied for first place on the team along with Elliot Rigbert. <br />
<br />
In the classroom, Betancourt has a GPA of 3.64 and is majoring in computer science.<br />
<br />
Champagne started in nine matches this season as the Florida native was in the starting lineup for each of Temple's six final matches. Champagne was vital during Temple's late-season shutout run as the Owls went five matches without surrendering a goal, their longest streak since 1959.<br />
<br />
Champagne has a GPA of 3.75 and is majoring in exercise science.<br />
<br />
Diaz was a key piece for the Owl defense, starting in 13 matches this season. Diaz was named the Philly Soccer Six Defensive Player of The Week on Sept. 18 after a strong contribution in Temple's 1-0 win against Akron (Sept. 14). Diaz recorded 1,239 minutes this season, ranking second on the team behind Kemali Green.<br />
<br />
Diaz has a cumulative GPA of 3.67.<br />
<br />
Jackson had a strong sophomore campaign for the Owls. The New Jersey native was featured in the starting lineup seven times this season, including in Temple's AAC Tournament matchup against Charlotte.<br />
<br />
Jackson has a GPA of 3.67 and is majoring in marketing.<br />
<br />
Lastly, Kampula was a force for the Owls this season, starting in 12 of TU's 17 matches. Kampula recorded six shots on goal this season which is tied for third on the team along with Nathan Brown. <br />
<br />
Kampula has a cumulative GPA of 3.83.<br />
<br />
To be eligible for Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or above. They must have played in 90 percent or started 67 percent of team games.<br />
