PHILADELPHIA - The Temple Owls (3-9, 2-6) fell to the North Texas Mean Green (6-6, 3-5) 24-17. Mackenzie McGill's two touchdowns levitated the Mean Green over the Owls in Temple's season finale.

Temple QB Evan Simon went 27-44, throwing for 268 yards and rushing for a touchdown. Freshman WR Tyler Stewart had his best game for the Owls, tallying 88 all-purpose yards.

How it Happened

North Texas opened the scoring on the first drive of the game when Chandler Morris connected with DT Sheffield for a 14-yard touchdown with 12:19 left in the first quarter.
The Mean Green made the score 10-0 on a 36-yard FG from Kali Nguma with 12:00 left in the first quarter.
Temple got on the board with a 44-yard FG from Maddux Trujillo to make the score 10-3 with 4:55 remaining in the first quarter.
Makenzie McGill added to North Texas' lead with a 39-yard rushing touchdown, giving the Mean Green a 17-3 lead with 3:02 left in the first quarter.
McGill added a 51-yard rushing touchdown to extend the Mean Green lead to 24-3 with 14:52 remaining in the first half.
Joquez Smith scored the Owls first touchdown of the day, a 1-yard rushing touchdown that made the score 24-10 with 4:04 left in the first half.
Temple continued to cut into the Mean Green lead in the closing moments of the first half, as QB Evan Simon dove into the endzone from a yard out. This cut the score to 24-17 North Texas heading into halftime.
A defensive battle ensued in the second half, with no points being scored by either team. Simon was intercepted on Temple's final drive of the game, giving the Mean Green a 24-17 victory.

Statistically Speaking

D.J. Woodbury's six tackles surpassed 100 tackles this season for the senior, joining Tyquan King in the 100-tackle club. This is the first time multiple Owls have recorded 100 or more tackles in a season.
