Men's Basketball Drops Big 5 Battle to La Salle, 83-75

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple University men's basketball team suffered a 83-75 loss at the hands of La Salle on Saturday afternoon inside John Glaser Arena. Sophomore guard Quante Berry registered the first double-double of his career with 18 points and 15 rebounds for the Owls.

- A pullup jumper by Quante Berry put the Owls in front, 9-5, early on, and the lead remained four at 11-7 before La Salle scored 11 straight to take a 18-11 lead.
- Berry finished the first half with 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting, but the Explorers held a 42-33 advantage at intermission.
- The lead for the home team ballooned to 63-48, with Corey McKeithan leading the way.
- McKeithan had 27 points through the game's first 30 minutes on 10-of-15 shooting.
- Temple clawed its way back into the game, with a three-point play from freshman Dillon Battie igniting a quick 6-1 spurt.
- After a three-point play by former Owl Jahlil White, back-to-back buckets from senior Steve Settle III and graduate student Jamal Mashburn Jr. forced La Salle head coach Fran Dunphy to call timeout with the score at 74-67.
- With the deficit at 77-71, Berry drove the left side and pulled the Owls to within four at 77-73 with less than two minutes left
- Berry looked to pull the Owls closer in the final minute, but a contested layup was off the mark.
- The Explorers knocked down two free throws and connected on a fast-break layup to seal the victory.
- La Salle won the battle on the boards, 45-42, including 17 on the offensive end.
- McKeithan finished with 28 points on 10-of-19 shooting.
- In addition to Berry's 18, Mashburn Jr. had 15 and Settle III added 13 points.
- The Owls struggled from long range, going 1-for-16 (6.3%) from deep.
- Temple will take part in the second annual Big 5 Classic, presented by Toyota, on Saturday, Dec. 7 at Wells Fargo Center.
- The Owls will square off with Villanova in the third-place game at 4:30 p.m. All three of the games of the triple-header will air live on NBC Sports Philadelphia.
