Owls in the NFL - Week 17

12.31.24 | Football

An exciting week 17 is now behind us. There's one week left in the NFL regular season and some of our Owls are gearing up for the playoffs while others still have a chance to save their season. Let's check in on our Owls.

Atlanta's Arnold Ebiketie (2017-20) earned another sack in Sunday's loss to Jordan Magee's (2019-23) Washington Commanders. Magee was ruled out this week after suffering a hamstring injury in last week's game but should return as the Commanders secured a playoff spot. Ebiketie has now recorded at least one sack in his last four games and has six total sacks this season.  Ebiketie and the Falcons will be playing next week for the final NFC playoff spot. A win secures the NFC South division but a loss and a Tampa Bay win would send the Falcons home. Atlanta's Harrison Hand (2019) remains on injured reserve for the Falcons and has been ruled out for the season.

New York Jets' Kenny Yeboah (2016-19) was targeted twice in the Jets' blowout loss to Dion Dawkins (2013-16) and the Buffalo Bills. Yeboah was unable to come down with a reception on either target. On defense, New York's Haason Reddick (2013-16) finished the game with two tackles. Dawkins and the Bills offensive line helped create 97 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns in a 40-14 win over their division rival.

Brandon McManus (2009-12) drilled a 22-yard field goal and one extra point in the Packers' 27-25 loss to their division rival Minnesota Vikings.

Tennessee's David Martin-Robinson (2018-23) did not record any stats in the Titans 20-13 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The rookie tight end could be in line for more work next week when the Titans conclude their season against the Houston Texans.

Pittsburgh's Tyler Matakevich (2012-15) did not record any tackles in the Steelers' 29-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. He'll look to get back on the stat sheet in their regular season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Chicago Bears' defensive end Jacob Martin (2014-17) finished with two tackles in a low scoring 6-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Martin also had one pass deflection in the game, his first of the season.
San Francisco's Rock Ya-Sin (2015-18), Matt Hennessy (2016-19) and the 49ers went up against Michael Niese (2016-21) and the Detroit Lions on Monday night. None of the former Owls saw game action in the 40-34 win for the Lions.

Carolina's Sam Franklin Jr. (2016-19) finished with one tackle in the Panthers' 48-14 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Franklin will wrap up his season against Ebiketie and the Atlanta Falcons next week.

There are four Owls currently on practice squad rosters:
  • Shaun Bradley (2016-19) - Houston Texans
  • Christian Braswell (2017-20) - Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Keith Kirkwood (2014-17) – Baltimore Ravens
  • William Kwenkeu (2016-21) – Baltimore Ravens
