Women's Tennis Picks Up First Victory of Season, 7-0 versus Siena

PHILADELPHIA  –  The Temple women's tennis team (1-2) picked up its first win of the season with a 7-0 victory over Siena (0-3) on Saturday afternoon at the Hecht Tennis Center at the University of Penn.

NOTES:
  • Temple went 3-0 out of doubles on Saturday, picking up the team point.
  • Evi Wei and Jessie Zheng got Temple started out of the third position with a 6-2 victory over Zaara Omar and Alexa Wilson. Maiko Uchijima and Samantha Nanere sealed the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Shelby Madeiros and Jade Gautier. Also earning a 6-2 win was Thamara Frasser Kawaratani and Marianthi Christoforidou from the third position over Jade Gautier and Laia Giralt.
  • The Owls went perfect in singles, dropping just one set on the day.
  • Uchijima was perfect against Giralt in the second position, 6-0, 6-0, to earn Temple's first point. Jessie Zheng knocked off Omar 6-4, 6-0 from the third position. The only blemish on the score sheet came from the first position where Kawaratani defeated Wilson, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3. Vineetha Mummadi defeated Madeline DeFaber with a clean sheet, 6-0, 6-0 from the fifth position. Christoforidou earned a 6-3, 7-5 win out of the fourth position against Manuela Gomez. Sena Takebe closed out Saturday's match with an 8-5 victory against Reegan Mullaney from the sixth position.
