Lacrosse Hosting "My Cause" Game on Friday

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple lacrosse team will be be hosting its "My Cause" game this Friday when the Owls host Manhattan at 3:00 pm at Howarth Field. 

The "My Cause" program highlights the ways in which all Temple student-athletes are encouraged to celebrate their beliefs and support causes that are important to them. You can learn more about each cause and why each player chose theirs below.

Maddie Barber Pulmonary Hypertension Association https://phassociation.org/aboutpha/ I chose the Pulmonary Hypertension Association, because when I was in 8th I lost my aunt to Pulmonary Hypertension and it has been a big part of my life ever since. It is a non-profit organization and runs solely off the support of others.
Mackenzie Roth American Heart Association https://www.heart.org I chose the American Heart Associaiton because it funds cardiovascular medical research, education on healthy cardiac care, and efforts to reduce deaths caused by cardiovascular disease and stroke. This topic is increasingly important as heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States.
Mia Ciancio Dysautonomia International http://www.dysautonomiainternational.org/ I chose Dysautonomia International because not many people know about dysautonomia and because my stepmom has had dysautonomia for the past 15 years. Dysautonomia is a medical condition that affects the autonomic nervous system. Meaning the body has trouble regulating things like blood pressure and heart rate.
Katie Flynn American Diabetes Association Diabetes.org I selected the American Diabetes Association as my cause because my grandfather ( "Popper") suffers from diabetes. He has had it for as long as I can remember and I know the struggles he has in managing it, from what he has to eat and the medication he needs to take.
Camryn Zavacky National Marrow Donor Program bethematch.org I chose the NMDP because my grandfather recently overcame Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) because of this program. He was told he had one year left to live, and from the donation of an 18 year old girl in Germany, he was given more years of life with his family. I am incredibly grateful for this foundation and hope that people can be encouraged to be a donor to save a life!
Kaitlyn Stankavage National Kidney Foundation https://www.kidney.org/ I chose this foundation because my grandfather battled through kidney disease for over 8 years. This foundation helps ensure equal access to quality kidney care.
Anastasia Ciminera Lymphoma Research Foundation https://lymphoma.org/ I chose this foundation because my Uncle Joe has been fighting non-Hodgkin lymphoma for about 14 years. He has pushed through so many obstacles and continues to have a positve mindset.
Jenna Facciolli Best Buddies https://www.bestbuddies.org I chose Best Buddies because for years I have been working with individuals with intellecutal and developmental disabilites and I am in the Best Buddies club here at Temple. This organization is a chance for people to take action, donate, and get involved to support and end the isolation that these individuals expirience.
Laura Conner American Brain Tumor Association https://www.abta.org/ I chose this foundation because it helps support families with brain tumor diagnosis. The main goal of this organization is to save lives ultimately. Still, it also helps fund brain tumor research and create a positive environment for families going through this process through interactions and engagements.

Saint judes has changed many families lives and continues to make dreams and mirales come true for chidren suffering.
Kiley Russell One Love Foundation https://www.joinonelove.org I chose this organization because my goal as psychology major is to help young adults with an understanding of the signs of an unhealthy relationship. It is an extremely important skill to have at a young age to be able to help yourself and your loved ones. As someone who had wished they saw the signs, I can only wish to help others see them as well.
Belle Mastropietro JDRF jdrf.org I chose this organization because of my sister who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 3. JDRF is a non-profit organization that raises money to try to find a cure for juvenile diabetes. Hopefully one day they can find a cure and my sister can benefit from that.
Katie Shallow Lung Cancer Research Foundation https://www.lungcancerresearchfoundation.org/ I chose this organization because my grandmother was diagnosed with lung cancer and unfortunately passed away in 2014. The LCRF helps fund research for prevention, treatment, diagnosis, and a hopeful cure for lung cancer.

My uncle was diagnosed with stomach cancer and lived at this center for a long period of time in a clinical trial, with my mom by his side through his whole fight. They were devoted and hardworking and I want cancer research to grow and improve in my uncle Brett's honor.
Lily Caravela Blue Hat Foundation https://www.thebluehatfoundation.org I chose the Blue Hat Foundation to support my Aunt JoAnn who is currently battling colon cancer. The Blue Hat foundation spreads awareness about colon cancer, provides support with free screenings, and specifically works with minorities and medically underserved communities.
Sarah Gowman Alzheimer's Association https://www.alz.org/ I chose the Alzheimer's Association because Alzheimer's is a disease that has began to affect my family and the people I love. The association raises funds for research and experimental treatment in hope to find a cure and continue to spread awareness of the disease.
Peyton Flynn Shine Like Sable Foundation https://www.shinelikesable.org/our-mission I chose the Shine Like Sable foundation, because Sable was a child in my community who passed at a very young age and her foundation is to support kids in need and spread kindess. They give the donations back to our local school Mason by providing kids without the funds nutritonal meals, funding Child Life specialists at Cincinnati Childrens.

I chose this foundation because my grandmother had and beat colon cancer.

Julie Schickling Alzheimer's Association https://www.alz.org/ Alzheimers Association strives to raise money to fund research, treatment and prevention for this disease. I chose this association because my grandmother had suffered from alzheimers. This association provides support and raises awareness to this progressive disease with hopes to one day find a cure.

I chose this foundation since breast cancer has won battles against my loved ones. With the use of this organization, we can hopefully help find a cure to breast cancer for all.

Emily Herbert National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation https://www.npcf.us I chose this foundation because, in the last two years, I lost both my grandfather and high school athletic trainer to pancreatic cancer. These two men were both very special to me and I would love to raise awareness to hopefully find a cure.

Olivia Saxman Alliance of Therapy dogs https://www.therapydogs.com/benefits-of-therapy-dogs-in-a-mental-health-institution/ I chose this organization because I think there should be more mental health awareness. In high school we had therapy dogs every Friday to help with our mental health after an event,and I think others should be able to experience what good therapy dogs do.
Hannah Schrader Apraxia kids https://www.apraxia-kids.org Apraxia kids is a nonprofit foundation that strengthens the support systems in the lives of children with apraxia of speech by educating professionals and families.Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a motor speech disorder that makes it difficult for children to speak. Children with the diagnosis of apraxia of speech generally have difficulty learning or carrying out the complex sequenced movements that are necessary for intelligible speech. I chose this foundation because I worked with children experiencing apraxia and continue to work in an on campus lab focusing on the treatment of this disorder.
Samantha Keck National Breast Cancer Foundation https://www.nationalbreastcancer.org I chose the breast cancer foundation because my third grade teacher recently fought breast cancer. She is now in remission but I recently have seen a lot of women that I know getting diagnosed with breast cancer. My hope would be for women to get screened early on so they can catch the cancer sooner than later and cure cancer.
Meagan Florkowski Muscular Dystrophy Association https://www.mda.org I chose this as my cause because my cousin Patrick has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This organization raises awareness and money to help fight this disease and find a cure.
Taylor Moncman Gavin R. Stevens Foundation https://www.gavinsfoundation.org/ The Gavin R. Stevens Foundation is an non-profit organization whose mission is to raise awarness and to find a cure for blindness, specifially focusing on Leber's Congential Amarosis (LCA). I selected this cause because just like Gavin, my younger brother Aj was born with this disease which has left him totally blind since birth. There are only 150 individuals in the United States with this disease and only 18 that are missing the exact gene (NMNAT1) that Aj and Gavin are missing. With our continued fundraising efforts towards research, I hope that one day we can find a cure to this disease and Aj and Gavin will one day be able to see things they never have before.
Erin King Active Minds https://www.activeminds.org/ Active Minds is an organization that encourages people with mental health problems to reach out to others. It fights the stigma around mental health and encourages "starting the conversation". I have struggled with anxiety my entire life, feeling comfortable to have people to talk to helps me feel better, which is why I chose this organization.
Riley Horoshko Breast Cancer awareness https://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/breast-cancer-awareness-month/ I chose this as my cause because my mom had breast cancer and she almost died from complications with the surgery. She is recently 10 years cancer free. My mom is my best friend and I couldn't imagine a world without her. Brest cancer affects one in six women. Hopefully more efforts will be put into curing and improving the treatment for breast cancer.
Colleen Berardino Alzhiemers Association https://www.alz.org/ I chose this cause because my grandmother passed away two years ago from Alzheimer's. This disease runs in my family and has not only affected her but all of our family. The Alzheimer's Association helps to raise money and spread awareness about this awful disease that has no cure. Dementia is not talked about enough and effects many around the world
Taylor Grollman Tim Tebow Foundation Tim Tebow Foundation The Tim Tebow Foundation is to bring the word of God to people everywhere. Their mission is to bring Faith, Hope and Love to those needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need. I chose this because in one of the darkest times in my life, I needed God the most and He was right there with me every step of the way. I had a light in me even in my darkest time because I had God in me, and I want people to have that same experience.
