Owls Clinch AAC Tournament Berth With 13-9 Win over Cincinnati

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's lacrosse team came back from an early deficit to defeat Cincinnati 13-9 on Saturday at Howarth Field, locking them in to the four-team American Athletic Conference tournament. The Owls are now 9-4 overall on the season, 4-1 in the AAC.
Belle Mastropietro set a season high with seven points in the game on the strength of three goals and four assists. Four other Owls scored multiple goals, including Erin King, who posted her second hat trick in the last three games.
How it Happened
> Cincinnati fired first, scoring twice in the fifth minute of play. The Owls were able to keep pace with scores from Maeve Tobin and Mackenzie Roth, but two more Bearcats goals gave the visitors a 4-2 lead after one.
> Cincinnati extended the lead to 5-2 early in the second before Temple turned it around. Back-to-back goals by Tobin and King sparked a 4-0 Owls run to end the half, with Julie Schickling and Amelia Wright adding on.Â
> Mastropietro found Roth for her fourth assist early in the third, extending Temple's run to 5-0. She then scored two of her own and Schickling added another to make it eight straight goals and a 10-5 Owls lead midway through the quarter.
> The Bearcats made it a two-goal game early in the fourth, but strong defense and back-to-back scores from King in the final eight minutes helped seal the win for Temple.

> Temple secured their fourth AAC tournament berth in their fifth full season in the conference. One more win will give the Owls their third 10-win season in the last four years.
> Mastropietro set a new career high with four assists, and her seven points were the most by an Owl this season. Her hat trick was her third in five conference games and seventh overall this season.
> Katie Shallow posted her 43rd and 44th caused turnovers of the season, setting a new Temple single-season record. She also set a season high with seven draw controls.
> King now has six goals in her last three games. She had eight total in the first 28 games of her collegiate career.
> The Owls won 15 of 25 draw controls and out-shot the Bearcats 30-18 overall, 22-13 on goal.
