"Temple is a very special place, it has everything that you need to be successful on and off the field, and that is the reason that I've decided to stay here all six years." said Wisdom Quarshie.
Many people would love the opportunity to play football at a D1 level as a student athlete. Wisdom Quarshie has gotten that opportunity, and has definitely not taken the opportunity for granted. Being from New Jersey, Quarshie wanted to come to Temple to play football at a high level, while also being close enough for his family to watch him perform. He also mentions the academics at Temple caught his eye when deciding where to take his talents. He has been at Temple for six years playing offensive line, and has been the epitome of "Temple Made and Temple Proud".
Wisdom has stayed at Temple throughout adversity on the field, coaching changes, locker room changes, etc. "I understand the college world is a business, and I understand that a lot of change can happen year in and year out. I remind myself to keep the same mission and same focus, and make sure I remember what I'm reaching for in terms of goals. And also making sure to build good relationships with the coaches coming into the locker room."
Starting his career at Temple in 2019, he has been successful on the field and also off the field. Making sure to stay involved in many different extracurricular activities throughout his career. He has built himself quite the resume.
Wisdom stated, "I have good people in my corner who always told me to be a person that is involved in my community, so coming into college I told myself that I wanted to be more than a student-athlete. I want to grow myself outside of sports and gain a different perspective, and that is what motivated me to become involved in things outside of football."
Quarshie is the Diversity Exclusion & Inclusion Coordinator for Temple Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) & American Athletic Conference SAAC and Co-founder of the Temple Black Student Athlete Association. He is a participant in the Strategic Planning Committee, and Owls for Justice. He has studied abroad in Italy, and that has been his favorite memory since being at Temple.
Outside of extracurricular activities at Temple, he has kept himself busy. Wisdom has interned with the Philadelphia Sixers, Comcast Business, NBC Sports, and also externed with Dell. In order to balance extracurricular activities, athletics, and academics, Quarshie says that planning is important so he makes sure to keep himself organized, writing everything down in his calendar. He also makes sure to limit himself, so he doesn't burn himself out. He also prioritizes time for his friends, and free time for himself. He is able to still put out good work and allows him to stay focused on what he needs to do next. He mentions that the understanding of balance is very important in order to keep going. After graduation from Temple, Quarshie hopes to eventually be the CEO of a company, or the GM of a sports team one day. Working in sports or business is a big goal of his moving forward.
When asked what Temple has given to Wisdom, he stated, "Temple has given me the opportunity to grow as a person, as a man, as a leader most importantly. It showed me that education is key with everything, and how you treat people is highly important. Temple has given me a second home, has given me a place where I can always come back to where I didn't know I would care so much about. It has given me a sense of pride of who I am, and gave me determination. Most importantly, Temple has taught me that whatever I put my mind to, I can go get it. It gave me a group of people I can reach out to and depend on for the rest of my life."
