Owls in the NFL - Week 2
9.17.24 | Football
In back-to-back weeks, a former Owl played in a Monday night game. Another Owl alum grabbed his first reception of the season, and two others helped lift their team to a hopeful 2-0 start.
Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker, Tyler Matakevich (2012-15) recorded one solo tackle during a punt return in Sunday's win over the Denver Broncos. Matakevich briefly left the game in the fourth quarter with what Steelers' head coach Mike Tomlin said was a hamstring injury. The injury was not severe enough to keep the eight-year NFL veteran out of the game for long. Matakevich reentered the game to help complete the 13-6 win giving the Steelers their second win of the season.
The Buffalo Bills are off to a hot start, in large part due to their stout offensive line led by left tackle Dion Dawkins (2013-16). The Bills notched a 31-10 blowout against their conference rival Miami Dolphins. On just 11 carries, Bills running back James Cook ran for 78 yards and two rushing touchdowns, the first of which came behind Dawkins for a goal line score in the second quarter.
On the other side of the field was another former Owl Robbie Chosen (2011-15) who pulled in his first catch of the season on a five-yard reception over the middle in the fourth quarter. Chosen was targeted four times throughout the game including one deep target from Tua Tagovailoa in the first quarter that was intercepted.
Last week, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Rock Ya-Sin (2015-18) saw action on Monday night. This week, linebacker Arnold Ebiketie (2017-20) made his return to Lincoln Financial Field for a Monday night nailbiter win against the Philadelphia Eagles. Ebiketie finished the game with three tackles, giving him nine total tackles so far this season.
Ya-Sin played in a 49ers loss against Minnesota 23-17.
Jacksonville's Christian Braswell (2018-20), Tennessee's David Martin-Robinson (2018-23), Detroit's Michael Niese (2020-21), NY Jets' Haason Reddick (2013-16), and New England's Yvandy Rigby (2019-23) were all inactive.
Carolina's Sam Franklin (2016-19), Washington's Jordan Magee (2019-23), Chicago's Jacob Martin (2014-17), and NY Jets' Kenny Yeboah (2016-19) remain on their teams Injury List.
